Okay, so I talked to the admissions lady from the RN program at my school. I am an alternate (#17) for my ADN program. 45 students were chosen, and 20 alternates. All chosen students and alternates have to take the TEAS test and pass with 67 or they lose their spot. Being #17, I haven't had much hope thus far that there was any way I was going to get in. HOWEVER, I just found out that 11 of the 45 students chosen have declined their spot in the program, before the TEAS test. That means, hope of all hopes, that if just 6 people don't reach the cut score, I will get in!!!! I know it's terrible to wish for, but I HAVE to get in this year...I just HAVE to. What do you guys think? Do you think I have a chance at all, or should I just give up hope now?????? 6 of the 60 or so people have to fail...is that realistic???

i think it is a gr8 opportunity that has come by. i see that you've already done your maths. That just shows how serious u are and badly you want this to work.Do your best on the TEAS exam and with just 6 people to run against, there's a lot of hope. Good luck.my prayers are with you.
Does anyone know the average or pass/fail rate of the TEAS???

At my school, we had to score a certain % on each section of the TEAS to even be considered. I know someone that took the TEAS (4.0 student) and just didn't apply herself and she scored in the 40s. Bad day I suppose. Don't give up just yet. Make sure you are well prepared for the test, go in there and do what you need to do.
Another thought....even though only 11 have declined the spot, there are likely some that don't bother to call and decline, and just don't show up to class the first day. Maybe they take a spot somewhere else, or decide to postpone school or can't pay for it, etc. I'd say you have a very good chance.

crossing my fingers!
Well, I got my TEAS test done and over with, THANK GOD. That was nerve-wracking!! I did pretty well and I'm happy that I don't even have to think about it anymore....even better news, I found out they called alternate #12 today!!! Sooooo, that means ONLY 5 people have to fail for me to get in.....keep your fingers crossed for me!!!!!
That's awesome! Keeping my fingers crossed for you! 5 people could easily change their minds or not get all their requirements completed before late August.

*Crossing my fingers for you*
Good luck!! I agree w/ PP saying people will not call or just won't show up for class, I had friends who never RSVP'd to my own wedding!! People are notorious for that.
Good luck and keep us posted!!

I'm thinking good thoughts for you. I hope you get in!!! People apply at multiple schools so you have a really good chance. Just curious... but where's your school?
Los Medanos in Pittsburg. What they did was send out the letters to the accepted people (45) and the alternates. Then everyone had to send letters back either accepting or declining. 12 people outright declined, the others all confirmed. Then everyone had to take the TEAS test. The cut score on that is 67. If you don't reach the cut score, you lose your spot and an alternate gets it.
Now, my hope is that 5 people either don't reach the cut score, or like you guys suggested, change their minds for some reason. Do people really do that? Accept the spot and then change at the last minute??
All I know is, the waiting is *KILLING* me. I called today and emailed the test administrator and everyone is telling me that they cannot give out any information and that I'll have to wait for a phone call.
It's *KILLING* me, I tell you.
OMG!!! I just went on Monday to Los Medanos' Nursing Career Seminar class! I've never been to that campus and I was VERY impressed with it. The person that taught the course was extremely nice and it was very, very informative. Even though that school is about a 50 minute drive for me, it's one of my top choices when I apply... assuming I get choices. lol. They said that there's ALWAYS someone that doesn't show up the first day to school. That's just hard for me to believe, but there you go. So even if you don't hear anything, I'd call the school the first day, 'cause you never know. I think you have a GREAT chance to get it. I'll be applying for 2009 entry. I'm so anxious and want to be in nursing school NOW!!! Please keep us updated and let us know whether you get in. I'm rooting for you!!
