About a month back I posted on my woes of getting into NP school. Due to my crapola GPA from a previous career, this was really hurting my chances. As you know, to get into a MSN program, all coursework is cumulative. I applied to a local college in my city and was rejected straight away.
I am happy to inform you that I applied to another college in the area and was accepted straight away!! This college only looked at the past 60 hours of my coursework.
I'm off to become an NP!!! Wohoo!!!!

MY theory in life is ALWAYS TRY and NEVER GIVE UP. no matter what is happening :) Congratulations to you!
As of right now, i'm pursuing the Adult/Gero NP path. I think that would make the most sense for me at this time. I have very little exposure to taking care of children, so I did'nt think FNP would workout too well. I can always go back for it later if needed.
And you are so right about not giving up! Ever since my career change several years ago, it has been a struggle. But with every new milestone, I got that much farther.
I remember starting from nothing, working a crappy job at Sam's Club, and going to get my CNA. I got my license and started working in the field. I worked up from CNA to LPN to RN. Then just finished off the BSN. It is so fulfilling to see all that hard work is paying off in a big way.

Congratulations! It's so nice to hear stories like this since I also have a less than stellar overall GPA, in my case because of being an overly cocky "I can do this without going to class" 18 year old who now, at 31, understands the value of education. I'm glad that there are some schools that will give credit to current successes instead of focusing on past failures!
if i were younger i would pursue, early, very early in my career, a vA hosp useded critical care nurses, gave extra assessment skills, we were called nurse cliniians, functioned as NP, before there were NP?....that qualified me to set for national PAC, exam, test site was missouri, i was prepared...... unfortunatel a blizard grounded plane flights.....then life continued....... would love advanced practice, but now at 66yr, 43 years as RN,....economies, do not make financial appropriate, as my pay grade i rural se texas, when i work hosp.....nears 90g...........bt i truly yearn for the practice of advanced practce, in rural and metro areas, NP, provide very adequate if not superior primary care, and the specialiy adv. practice do a superior job.........i know of no patient unhappy with ther adv.practice nurse mgt......best wishes, very prod of you.
