Hi everyone, I graduate in June of next year, and today was talking with some friends from one of my clinicals. They were insisting that there is a test we need to take before we can get our license in Ohio that is just specific to Ohio (not the NCLEX). Is this true? The only test I've ever heard that we need to take is the NCLEX. Thanks for any help you all have!

[i am an Ohio RN. The only test I ever took was the NCLEX. Now maybe your friends are refering to tests such as ACLS for certain jobs in the hospitals. But, never have I heard of an Ohio specific test. I work at a hospital that has many nursing students and I have never had anyone mention anything. I also worked as staff member at a nursing school about 5 years ago and the only test I preped them for was NCLEX.

Not true. Some schools do require that you pass the HESI exam to be able to graduate, that is school based. But the only exam for actual licensure is the NCLEX exam. Foreign trained nurses are required to have a Credentials Evaluation by CGFNS, and then only the NCLEX exam, as well.
Well, I never heard of a HESI exam. What does this test involve? I am from the Cleveland area where I received my ADN and went to Univ. of Akron for my BSN. I never heard mention of this test.
I didn't think there was a state specific test, but they insisted that there was. They both said that before we could get our Ohio License, we had to take Ohio's test. I told them that I had never heard of that, just the NCLEX, and that's a national test, but they insisted that they were right, so I was just checking.... Thanks for the replies!!
Theyh were wrong.............
HESI exams are fairly new and some schools are using them. Not sure exactly who puts the exam on, etc., put just that they are being used. If you check out the student nurse forum, you will hear quite a bit about them.
