Teas Test

The math is basic...everything that is in the study guide for the math section is almost an exact replica of what is on the test. Reading is basically seeing if you understood what was in the passage. English is basically seeing if you know what punctuation mark belongs where and if a sentence is written correctly. Science is all over the place and there is no real way of studying for it. I would say that if your college takes a composite score, then you would want to do good in the other areas so it will offset the science section. That's what happened for me and my school takes a 70% for the TEAS, and I made a 82.4%.

Okay, I'm freaking out now to hear some people are just getting a letter in the mail saying they have a TEAS test in two weeks, etc. We have selective admissions at our school, blah, blah, blah, and no mention of entrance exam. I was accepted for Fall 2010. My school has never once mentioned the TEAS. I have asked a couple of times, so I know we are taking one, but they said it's just baseline. So are they just telling me that . . . then I get a letter in the mail for my orientation date and a date to take the test and the score I need? Is that something that happens? Or did everybody who got one of those letters know they would be taking the TEAS and need a certain score? And just did not know the date until they got their letter. Do schools spring these on you; is that normal; or should I not be worried because there is no mention of TEAS in our brochure, application, etc. Is mine really just gonna be "baseline?" Is that normal?

I only inquired, did prereq's specifically for, and applied to one school (have kids and need to stay in one location), so I don't know how any other school does it . . . . I just wonder how hard I should be studying for the TEAS over summer; I am taking summer classes, so to know way ahead of time would be nice. Geesh! Why is orientation and this test such a big secret?!

I believe the TEAS test is fairly new, so many people don't know about it. I got a letter in the mail that said I had to take it in 3 weeks. At the orientation, I found out that my schools passing score is 67%, and that we were taking version 4 of the test. I studied out of the version 5 manual, so it didn't really match. If you can try to find out your schools passing score and which version do they take.

For those who have already registered to take the TEAS, were there a lot of dates and times available for testing? How far in advance were the dates? I'd like to take mine in July or August if possible.

Wow... You guys/gals are getting plenty of time to study. The schools I applied to only allowed us 1 week to study for the TEAS.

I personally think 1 week is enough. I scored 88%. (Version 4)

I did happen to take the version 5 practice assessment and I was astonished at how much more difficult it was than the version 4.

I take mine next saturday. Studied for a month. And still dont feel 100% prepared. Theres so much science I dont think i ll remember and math is my weakness, while reading has always been my strength. My school (P.I.T) looks at individual scores for each section. Any tips on which science section to really focus on?

Sorry to say there is no focus to the exam. You will get general science questions, bio, A&P, and even earth science. I remember only like 2 earth science questions, but be familiar with plate techtonics (general concepts). There were some questions on the scientific method, but if you studied that in the review book you should be ok.

A few anatomy/physiology questions, I think one was on skeletal system, I think there is another on movement of blood through the heart. Some earth science questions, I think one is on plate tectonics and another on cloud formations. I remember a question on food webs too.

For math, know your formulas and your conversions. I remember a question on pythagorean therom and interest rate.

I found that the anatomy pictures were REALLY low quality. I had no idea where the arrow was pointing to on the skeleton so I missed all the anatomy questions (and that is one of my strong areas!). There were physics. Hardly any physiology. The science part was by far the most difficult. Brush up on your algebra. The english part was all very easy. Overall, it was an easy test. I used the study book and that helped prep me. But the science was what I didn't like.
