In another thread I noticed many of you had taken Zoloft. I have heard this causes weight gain. Have any of you experienced this?

Carol, I've been on 100mg Zoloft BID for about 10 years. I have not noticed a weight gain. I am overweight but that goes back to before I was on Zoloft. Hope this helps, Joanna

Most of the ssri's have a weight gain effect with paxil being the worst.. Zoloft coming in a close second.

thanks for your replies. I have started taking it today, hopefully I will not gain- I am overweight already so I cannot afford to. But hopefully the Zoloft helps with my emotional eating issues and it will even out.

I really didn't want to take anything, but I have always suffered from a mild depression. The stress of the past year or so in my life has added to it more. Hopefully I won't need it too long.

thanks again

I used to take Zoloft for chronic headaches as a teenager. I took 200mg daily. It did not change my weight.

I take 50mg a day and I have had some weight gain but I don't think its due to the med.

my doc told me that zoloft has a low rate of weight gain and most people who gain weight do so because they are feeling better and eat more.

This came out today. This article lists paxil and zoloft specifically for weight gain.

I've been taking 50mg per day for about 8 years with No side effects, and no weight gain. Just be prepared to give it time (about 2 weeks). If you feel emotionally 'flat', you are taking too much and should cut back the dose. If there is no effect, go back to the Dr. and try something else; don't give up. It's has made a huge difference in the quality of my life.:wink2:

I have been on it for about 9 years,50-75 mg daily. It changed my life. No weight gain OR loss.

Actually, I think Zoloft has helped me lose weight...I feel better about myself and want to take better care of my health by eating right, exercising, etc.:twocents:
