Taking NCLEX

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi all,

Taking NCLEX Monday, 2/9. Any sugestions as how to stop the panic, thinking I may not be ready?

I think I am ready, I have been studying, and am doing fairly well on the practice exams, but this feeling is so bad, I am thinking about canceling.

Any sugestions would be appreciated.

Thanks:confused:

If you have studied and know the content well you should do fine. Just try to get enough sleep the night before the exam. And don't worry if your's cuts off at the minimum number, it usually means you have scored so well that you do not need to go any further! Good luck!!!

Hi there! just stay focus on your review.,if you are not sure, then just take your time.,but as what you have said.,that you are doing well with your practice exam then go on! be confident.,and pray! Dont get nervous.,Goodluck and God Bless!:)

You have been preparing to take the nclex since you took your first nursing exam in school (thats what instructors try to model questions after). I agree with the above posts; if you have been reviewing the material and are doing well on practice tests you will do well. Take the day before your exam off (study minimally) rest, eat a good breakfast, get a good nights sleep. Good Luck!!

Try not to worry about the exam. I know easier said than done. I too felt anxiety when I took my test in March 2003, but if you have studied your material and remember to try to use your test taking strategies such always remebers ABC's then safety next, that when you come to a question that seems like you will have no idea how to respond, that there is always keys words in the scenario that will help. Also please don't focus on how many questions you have answered that does not determine whether you passed or failed. Think positive and you will be successful. Good luck.

i am a december '03 graduate and i took the exam january 30th. i found out i passed on that following monday. in my opinion the test was not the worst test in the world. it wasn't easy but then again it's not meant to be. as long as you did a lot of practice questions, you will be fine. also it helps to tell yourself over and over that you passed, even before you take the test. don't walk in that testing center with a negative attitude. and DON'T think that if you get more than 75 questions you failed. relax and if you are a spiritual/religious person, pray. i'll be praying for you.

good luck

I took the nlcex-rn this morning, so this topic is very fresh in my mind! I got 75 questions, lots of priority ones, so I hope that's good! We'll see in a few days... A little advice-get a good night's sleep (I didn't & wish I had when my alarm went off). You want to be able to reason well in the ol' noggin. Get all of your stuff together the night before (authorization to test, photo id's, snacks, etc). You do sound prepared, despite what you may feel. They don't expect a brand new nurse to know everything. Your goal isn't to make 100%, it's just to pass! You can miss some questions-the test just needs to sense that you know the core content & then it'll bump up into critical thinking questions, which I think are actually easier. I thought of cancelling Tuesday night, but I'm glad I didn't. As long as you have studied, done practice questions, and are able to think clearly during the test, you should go great. Good luck!

Good luck! I will be praying for you too!

Best wishes, Christina

I know how hard this time can be. It has been 9 years since I took boards but BOY do I remember!! I tried really hard not to stress over it. I did not cram the last few days either. If you don't know it by then, you won't retain it at the last minute. ;)

The day of the exam, 2 of my friends and I went to breakfast before the time of the test. We went early so that we were not rushed and had a good meal before the exam. That was calming for all 3 of us.

When I took the test, once I made a decision on an aswer, I hit the enter key twice so that I could not second guess myself. That one thing kept my anxiety level down and I did not change my first instincts, therefore was probably the right answer. Some of my friends would sit for long periods and think the questions over for long periods. Their nerves were shot by the time they finished the test. I only did 75 questions.

I hope this helps. Good luck to you, have faith and you will be fine!! :kiss

Thank you all for your words of advise and encouragement.

I have taken today (Friday 2/5/) off from work and will spend the day brushing up on the couple of things that give me grief. I will spend a little part of Saturday doing a brief review, and Sunday I have scheduled a massage for myself and will spend the rest of the day relaxing, going to a movie or something.

It's almost embarrasing being so nervous. It's just that I have spent soooooooo long getting to this point (as you already know),I can't believe it all comes down to this anxiety.

Anyway, in my state, I can go to the web site 2 business days after the test. So, I will know on Wednesday (dear God). I will let you know how things end up!!

Thanks

Hi There,

I take the NCLEX next Tuesday, and am continuing to remind myself that I did well throughout nursing school and it has prepared me for this exam. I'm a little nervous, too. . . .

Best of luck to you!!

Take care,

Emily
