I am currently a pre-nursing student, who is in a bit of a pickle. I have now taken anatomy twice and been unable to pass. I failed the class the first time and had to withdraw the second time. Many nursing schools only allow 2 attempts at anatomy for nursing students. Are there any schools that allow students more than 2 attempts? I am a sophomore this year and have a ton of the pre-req courses for nursing school out of the way. I would really like to remain on the nursing path if possible. Thanks to everyone who comments!

Best to ask this of the nursing schools in your area. It will do you no good if someone from California answers and you live in Maine.
I just kind of was asking in general if there are schools out there that give pre-nursing students more than 2 tries at anatomy :) a lot of the schools in my area have the 2 attempt policy.

Did you withdraw early? Or did you get a W on your transcript?
Right now, I'd be more concerned about failing anatomy twice than finding a nursing school that will consider you.
Good luck.

Try calling a few schools. Don't rule out private schools. However, if you can't pass Anatomy on the 3rd try, nursing may not be a good career choice for you. Good luck.

If you can't pass anatomy twice then how do you expect to pass physiology? Anatomy was a piece of cake compared to physiology.
If you have failed it twice already you *might* be able to take it a third time... but no more than that. After that you probably have to thing of another career path.

I withdrew and received a W on my transcript. I am currently not enrolled in anatomy (I am taking BIO 101), because I need to find out if taking anatomy a third time is even an option for me! Thank you for your comment!
Some schools don't take W's into consideration when figuring how many times you've taken the course, so you may very well be able to take it again. I'd contact the school(s) you're interested in and go from there.

Don't stress too much about it, focus on passing the classes your taking now. When applying to nursing programs you can always explain yourself in the essay or short responses as to why you failed the class. The reason has to be valid and not it was hard. Theres plenty of nursing programs so I'm sure if your gpa is high and you have valid experience you'll get in. It's not always easy but if you really want it, you can push through :)
P.S. Next time you take the class, start reviewing the material weeks before the exam, that always works for me. Figure out your study routine whether its flashcards or memorization.

Thank you so much for the advice!! I took A&P as a freshman, so I think that's part of the reason I struggled so hard. The class was like no other I have taken and I thought I knew how to study, when in reality I really didn't. I am hoping that if things work out and I am able to take anatomy again, I am able to pass! That would be great! :)

There are some schools that will accept the highest grade regardless of the number of attempts. With that said, one school I know in particular limits the attempt to 3 at that campus, but will accept a passing grade completed at another school. So yes, there are schools that would give you a chance, but you would have to do some digging into the schools in your state. Consider both ADN and BSN options. One may be more expensive though depending on the route you choose.

I agree with an above post. Not to sound mean, but if you can't pass A&P for the second time, you should probably change your major. Nursing classes are no joke.
