taiwan

hello... i just want to ask your opinion. i took my NCLEX exam last 2006 and failed. then i filed again and scheduled it on june but i felt afraid coz i wasnt ready at all. moved my exam.. i dont have any choice but to have it on sept. since there are no vacant slots for july and august. i was really planning to have it in taiwan, but i don't have any idea on how i am going to apply for a visa. how much it costs? and does it need a personal appearance to get a visa? anf for those who took the exam in taiwan, how was it?

Why not take it in HK instead so that you won't have troubles getting a visa, esp. since you plan to take not until Sept. I'm very sure HK is still open for Sept.

hello lawrence! yeah, i scheduled it on sept HK but i want to take it between july or august but the slots are already full. my only option is that to resched in taiwan maybe july or august are still open. hope so..

:o my only prob. is the taiwan visa.

There are always slots opening in HK, someone cancels that booked an appt there. That is how all that have gone thru there have gotten an appt to test in HK. It is going to involve you doing some work to get the slot. There are already threads on this forum giving specifics as to what to do.

Taiwan requires a visa for you to visit there. And going there strictly to test for NCLEX will not get you a visa for there.

You had scheduled a day for June, so you will be giving that up, and someone else who is ready will use that date. Samething will happen to you when you get another date for HK.

I seem unable to understand why they offer "inaccessible" international testing sites...:madface: I understand that they choose centers based on security and other standards, however, the issue is also accessibility(because it is supposed to cater to those who cannot take it in the USA).:cool: If a country doesn't allow an examinee to get there(in an international test site) to take the exam, then I suggest that PEARSONVUE reconsider maintaining that site, otherwise, it's like having a bias for examinees of a particular country...Examinees are having problems getting booked because of these travel woes...I believe these concerns should be formally brought up with PEARSONVUE, NCSBN and embassies of the countries concerned...;)

They are not unaccessible for all. There is not one country that permits all to enter there to take the exam. There are people that actually reside there.

Even the US does not permit someone to come to the US just to take the NCLEX exam, if they do not already have a tourist visa. What about the centers in Japan? They require a visa to test there.

So, that takes the US out, and what about Canada? They require a visa to visit there. Centers are open depending on many issues and they always have plenty to take the exams in those areas. Just because you are from a country where most other countries require a visa from there, it does not mean that all others need to have that visa.

Look at London, in the UK. That was the only center in Europe for several years, and you do not hear complaints about there, and they require a visa to go there for many.

It is possible to always get a spot in HK if the nurse puts forth the effort to get a spot. Sure, it requires some work and time on their part, but have not seen one that has not gotten an open slot there.

Yes, and until these concerns are addressed, problems on scheduling will always occur, particularly in Asia where HK seems to be the only "visa-free" test site...Another way maybe to address these problems if not through the visa option is to lengthen the validity of the eligibility and ATT...

Sorry, but I do not agree with that at all. I do not know of one person that was not able to get a slot if they put their mind to it and made the attempt to get an open slot in HK. There is absolutely no reason that the US has to make any changes to the way that they do things, you need to work around what they want if you wish to work there.

And being in SE Asia, you actually have a choice of multiple locations to test. Look at the nurses that are on the continent of Africa..........their testing site is London and that requires a visa for them to go there.

Even South America, the closest to them is Mexico City.

Whether or not you need a visa to travel to a certain country is dependent on where you are a citizen of. It has nothing to do with requirements of the US.

To make a change that affects the entire world because of one country is just not going to happen. If anyone is persistant to get a slot in HK, they will get one. Sure, they have to do the work and continuously check, but they can get one. People are always cancelling. You got a slot in HK, did you not?
