Summer work

Hello all, this may have been asked ad naseum but...I am considering applying for a position as a school nurse. Do any of you work during the summer to supplement your income? I currently work in Med-Surg and it is killing me physically so I want to get out. However, I do not want to lose my skills and will probably need extra income because our state doesn't pay school nurses much. I was thinking I could work during the school year then work at the local children's hospital part time during the summer. So, what has been your experience?

I am only in my second year of working where i get summers off - i worked for a few years in a 12 month school - last summer i worked doing home care - it paid ok but after doing it for a while into the school year i realized it wasn't my cup of tea. I applied to a hospital this summer but didn't hear back from them - they're changing health systems and i heard thet they have a freeze on hiring - those poor (i'm sure) short staffed nurses...

For several years I worked at a LTC facility during the summers. It was good money, but as I get oldler, I realize that I love my summers off.....so now I dedicate my time off for my family and relaxation ;)

Good luck with your decision !

Usually, you can get agency work over the summers if you need to. I take the summers off!

I am working as a Summer School Nurse for 6 weeks. I will always need to work during the summers for the forseeable future as the money in my area is not great. I have found in my area summer school RN jobs are plentiful as most of the school RN's do take summers off.
