Hi everyone!
I'm new to this list and am eager to read books like this:
From Silence to Voice: What Nurses Know and Must Communicate to the Public
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0801488680/ref=pd_luc_mri/102-0447755-8377766?v=glance&s=books&me=ATVPDKIKX0DER&st=*
I believe I've seen this book on this site before, but am interested in the others listed on the Amazon page as well. Please share your best nursing reads: activism or otherwise. Don't know how to create an all encompassing topic for great nursing literature: clinical, history, fiction, etc. Maybe one of you can help me do that!

You have made a great start there, with From Silence to Voice. I heard the author speak at a convention; she has great respect for nurses. Excellent resource, I have used it often.
2 of my other favorites: We Band of Angels, by Elizabeth Norman which is the story of the courageous nurses who were captured in the Phillipines during WWII It will make you proud to be a nurse. I think I gave that book to everyone one Christmas! :) Also Life Support, by Suzanne Gordon who followed 3 nurses from Boston. It is very real.
If you are interested in political activism or just learning about the process, you can't beat Policy and Politics in Nursing and Health Care by Diana Mason (editor of AJN) Judith Leavitt and Mary Chaffee.
I know this thread topic has come up before, but it's worth looking at again.

The Spirit Hits You and You Fall Down is a must read for anyone working in a multi-cultural environment. You will not be able to put it down.

I like the "Chicken Soup for the Nurses soul" Book, not really history or activism, but a good read about some of what it means to be a nurse I think. I've also read the book "Nurse!", which was pretty interesting. Haven't read any real political nursing books though.
