Study Preparations

Published

Hi. I am currently studying for my NCLEX exam. I have an issue with content material for both Med/Surg and Maternal Newborn. I'm studying from my textbooks for this two topics but find the books wordy and time consuming. What are some good books that I can use to study from that will not give me these issues?

I would suggest you get a Saunders book to study . And from my experience Nclex RN doesn't test a lot of content . I would suggest you practice questions and do A lottttt of them . If you graduate nursing school then you can pass this exam .

Hi. Thank you. I do have the Saunders book and that helps a lot for med/surg. However, I barely passed Maternity Newborn and I'm pretty worried about that topic. Do you have any book suggestions for that topic?

I personally used the evolve hesi nclex RN exam book . And read through the topics I didn't know . On my Nclex exam I had only 2 ob questions and it was basic knowledge questions , nothing over the top . I would try to get an understanding of maternity and then do practice questions in that area. I would suggest uworld and read the rationales. Uworld rationales are AMAZING .

Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN 5th edition is perfect for a thorough content review on any subject in the four content areas.

To survive Maternity, I used this: Maternal and Newborn Success: A Course Review Applying Critical Thinking to Test Taking (Davis's Success Series): 9780803619067: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com

It is a book with questions focusing on Maternity and newborn care. The questions are very good. Buy the book used since its cheaper.

Good luck.

I would suggest that you listen to the Hurst review on Maternity nursing. On the internet you can pull up Hurst review maternity nursing part 1 or 2 4shared. It is on mp3 you can listen to it while jogging or walking. You will learn a lot I gurantee it. I hope this help.
