What kinds of projects/fundraisiers/voluntering do other SNA groups do?? I'm president for this year and I was just looking for some other ideas!

at my last school it was pretty lame.. they had a pizza party once a month, and thats about all i noticed them do besides their meetings.
i was looking into my new schools sna though, and it looks like they do fun stuff, like socials (with alcohol for sale!) and picnics, as well as trips to conferences where they compete with other sna's.

My SNA organizes activities like campus Blood Drives and volunteers to staff the first aid tent for events. Since I'm in a grad-entry program, everyone's of age, so it occasionally holds socials in local bars as well.
I like the idea of volunteering for the first aid tent, I never though of that. I'm not sure we would do an event at a bar because not everyone in my program is of age...

Oh man we did a few things
Raffles where local businesses would donate things and then we would raffle tickets off to the students.
We would help with the blood draws that the hospital does every month that does screenings for residents of the town for dirt cheap
Volunteer to do several different activities with hospice care in our area
We had a "buddy" system where the upper classman members would offer help for the newbies to help with skills, pep talks etc etc
Get in contact with the local hospitals and see what kind of education things you can get involved in. When I was in charge of ours at my school I always wanted to be educating the public and doing as much as we could, the other members just wanted the membership on their resumes.
If you do a First Aid tent, make sure you have some First Responders, EMTs, or some people who read the back of your assessment textbook and therefore know how to do a SAMPLE history. SAMPLE and OPQRST go a long way in organizing your assessment and care in the field, and aren't things that a nursing school education is good at hammering home.

If you are going to volunteer for something where you will have hands-on with patients, make sure you check to see if you need a preceptor present. I know that we had to have one present when we were doing community service that involved hands-on.
