Each school has different amounts that they approve for an independent, living off campus. See what your school offers but expect to have a job on the side to make the difference. I am in Community college now, and don't recieve that much - I still need to supplement ( my expenses are exactly 2000.00/month) and I need to supplement it. Private School (Molloy/nyc) has higher expected cost of attendance not including tuition, but the tuition is so much higher, I will be paying student loans forever. Although, I am considering it, in case of emergency. Good Luck!

You can get $9,500 the 1st year, $10,500 the 2nd year, and $12,500 the last 2 years in Stafford loans(not including grants).
No one will be able to really tell you exactly what you can get until you apply to schools and fill out a FAFSA. Then the schools financial aid office will tell you everything you are eligible for.

You can always try to get private loans but be ready they usually carry high interest rates.

I go to a state school and my student loans do not fully cover my tuition & books. They don't really give you much. I ended up working tons of overtime at my last job and saving for a couple years just so I could quit & focus on my nursing program full-time. You may be able to get private loans too, but the interest rates are pretty high.

Well I do not know what area that you live in, but I live in Florida. I know when I was in school a lot of the local hospitals offer scholarships to cover the cost of tuition, books, and fees. Also, once you graduated from the program you would have to work for that hospital for two years. So that may be a route that you can try, because nursing school can be expensive, and it does also depend on how much you can get in loans. Also, you may be even to get a private student loan to cover the whole cost of school, and your extra expenses. Did you apply for fin. aid to see if you would qualify for grants? I know when my friends mother was going to nursing school back in Texas as a single mother of three they had a lot of resources to assist her with paying her home bills. So in your area there may be some resources out there that could assist you. I wish you the best of luck.

Honestly. I mean no disrespect but I think you should call your local community college and make an appointment with someone who deals with student finance. It seems a bit ill-advised to take advice of this type from an online message board.

I recently applied for WIA and it seems to be very helpful with covering a portion of tuition...contact your local unemployment for detailed info....
