Hello! This is my first semester in the MTSU SON and we are required to buy stethoscopes next semester and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a good one. I don't mind spending a little bit of money on it as long as it's quality. I've seen electronic ones online, some of them that even record heart beats, but does anyone use one? My budget is around 400 dollars. Thanks!

Littmann has great stethoscopes. If your budget is $400 then you can surely get a quality scope. If you do splurge be sure to keep it close to you as the nice stethoscopes tend to grow legs. Keep it around your neck at all times!
As far as an electronic stethoscope...there really isn't a need for one, IMO, unless you have hearing issues or something like that. The way we abuse our scopes (dropping them, laying them around, etc) it is bound to get damaged, lost, or even stolen. Keep it simple for now. I can't really think of a reason to record heart sounds as a nurse...let alone as a student.
There are many other threads on this topic that you might find of assistance as well.

I would suggest a Littmann Cardiology III or Master Cardiology. Electronic is awesome if you are like deaf and want it to grow legs. Just my opinion I have 4 Littmanns and those are my fav ones.

For a student scope, I'd suggest the littmann Classic II. It's lighter weight than the cardios and its a great scope. I work in critical care and there are some nights I still grab mine on the way in to work. The heaviness of the cardiology III bugs my neck at times for 12 hours. Either way, you can't go wrong. They're awesome.

Just get a cheap one that works, I used a no name brand throughout school, it worked well, and I wouldnt have been heartbroken if it got eternally borrowed. Picked up a littman classic 2 after graduating though.

If you really want to hear murmurs, lung and heart sounds, invest in the Littman Master. The acoustics are excellent.
Do not set it down, it will be stolen.
