Congrats everyone:bow: I start LPN school tomm as well. I have no medical background except for being stuck in the ER for hours with my children ha ha. I have always had the desire to care of people and after losing my 1st son in 2001 to SIDS (when i was 21 yrs old) I felt this was a good way to give back to my community. i am both very excited and nervous and I will be turning to you all for help!!! Good luck everyone!!

Hi all
I graduate the 18th of this month. So I figured i'd tell you all what I might have needed to hear in the beginning. You can do it BUT you have to read and study. First thing you should learn is how to critical think, it'll make your experience go smoother. In the beginning, middle, and almost end you'll be hating life. But at the very end you'll be wondering what you're going to do without all the friends you've made and the routines you acquired. Help your classmates so that your classmates will help you (make study groups and stuff) it'll make it easier to learn and remember everything. So good luck to everyone. If you have any specific questions I might have not answered feel free to ask.
Again, good luck and god bless...
And now for the NCLEX

I'm 4 months into my LPN program, and I LOVE it. Everyone says it's gonna be hard, and they're right, it is hard. And right now I have NO life. (I work full time nights, and go to class mornings.) But i still love everything i'm learning, i love most of my teachers, and i love nursing! Just make sure you read the material ahead of time so you have a clue what they're talking about in lecture and flag the stuff that they comment, "This is Important" or "You might see this again." Study groups can be a good idea if you don't get distracted easily. I can't concentrate when i'm with a whole bunch of people and then it does more damage than good.
Good luck to you! Study hard!

I will be graduating in 8 weeks! I cannot believe how fast the time has gone! Here is a copy of a post I made a while back when someone was scared about starting and asking for some tips/advice. I hope it helps.
Strive for the best possible grades BUT also remember Nursing school is much different than other college courses/degrees you may have taken. Many people who are 4.0 for pre-reqs or a previous degree see their grades slide some. (I personally had this happen as did many many of my friends). Don't kill yourself over grades a bit lower than you are use to but always try to do your best!
Learn TIME MANAGEMENT ASAP! Without it you will never succeed.
If family asks what they can do to help, give them something to do! Test you on a chapter, check their vitals, have them make dinner, do the dishes, wash clothes, give the kids a bath etc. I never use to ask for or take any help from my family. I was able to do it alone. Now if my hubby asks me what he can do, he gets a list to choose from
Do NOT fall behind. Always be on target or ahead..never behind. If you fall behind its difficult to catch up!
On days you have "nothing" to do, or nothing you have to hand in the next day, grab your syllabus and see what chapters you will be doing next, READ it, do the workbook if you have one, practice the upcoming skills if possible. Or just review material for upcoming tests. I am never idle. I am always doing something in regards to school. Thats not to say you can not take a break, but don't be taking a break all the time. (does that make sense the way I said it?)
Realize that there are going to be many many personalities in your class. Some you click with, some you don't. Do not fall into the "gossip mill", avoid all drama at all costs, if you fall into it, it only drags you down. Remember that you have to deal with these people for quite some time and its always better to be on good terms with someone than bad.
Do not worry about or try to compete with others grades. YOUR scores are the only ones that pertain to YOUR license! Compete with yourself!
ASK FOR HELP WHEN you realize you need it, not when its too late!
And lastly, remember to laugh and try to have some fun!
Best of luck! Its a long, winding, rocky road. But you can travel it and get to your final destination...sitting for the NCLEX and PASSING!
