Stalling?

I understand and I'm not even in grad school yet. Get off the computer (both of us) and back to work!

i'm an r.n. student, but i can relate. i've been on my computer "AVOIDING" my reading all morning!...some days i just can't deal w/ it!

but, i've noticed that i'm better about my studies in the evening, don't know why?....well, i'm not much of a morning person i guess.

Honestly, for a lot of these grad theory and research type papers, you can't just sit and type. The concepts and thoughts require you to do a lot of thinking, but in little spurts. I WISH I could just sit down and type it all out perfectly like I have it laid out in my head. It seems to be more of an unconscious process though.

I have never encountered "writers block" of the variety and the severity of the type that I have to deal with in my MSN program. ARRRRGH! I am one that is never at a shortage for words....that is, until now.

Do you want to know what my biggest problem tends to be? The number one reason I stall in writing my endless stream of papers or do my readings is because I sit at my desk and freak out for about 50 hours about all the work I have to do and then I freak out some more. :) It seems to be my thing to do when I come home from grad school on Wednesdays (that would be today!!) I am in class on Wed. from 8:30 AM-8 PM....no joke!!! My brain is fried, and my eyes are bugging out and oh yeah, I'm freaking out over all the new work I now have to do this week. And this is only the 5th week of school.

When I was in grad school (I did my MSN online), I would open All Nurses in one screen, minimize it, open my Word document, start the endless APA formatting nonsense and do it in small spurts, interspersed with small bursts of All Nurses. All Nurses was kinda my reward! lol

This is exactly what I do, but with another bulletin board. This other BB is full of snarky fun women who are Mom's like me. I will make myself work on the paper for 20 or so minutes and then reward myself with a visit to the fun board. Sad, but hey.......it works.

not so much that, as it just takes me longer in general to get going. My stalling and delays come up front with a lot of teeth-gnashing about how to get started and approach the project. Once I get started, I usually am on a roll, well, at least sort of (I edit a lot while I am writing) When I am actually writing, I don't take "internet breaks" because they disrupt my train of thought.

I find a good radio station to put on in the background and have it playing at a reasonably low volume, and I write...my only breaks are potty/drink breaks or breaks that happen because of other responsibilities, etc.
