Hi All,
I am currently taking pre-reqs to apply for an accelerated BSN program. It seems to me I am taking forever to finish these courses, however, as of now, it seems like i am going to be done by december 2011. I don't want to wait until the fall of 2012 to start a program. As a result, I would really appreciate if you guys can share some information about programs that accept students during the spring.
My criteria is it has to be an accelerated BSN program that would accept application from students whose pre-reqs will be in progress at the time of application!
I would really appreciate your help guys:)
Thanks!!

There are LOTS of ABSNs out there that accept students into a spring class. Without knowing your geographic preferences, hard to pinpoint specific schools. I do know off the top of my head that Drexel (in PA) and NYU are two examples. Schools also vary in terms of prereqs required, so you should look into that as well.
Thanks for you reply! As of now, I am open to anywhere in the nation...however, top choices would be california, new york, and texas. But honestly, just willing to move wherever a program takes me!
Not sure if tuition/fees are an issue for you (at it is for me), but I did in fact apply to and was accepted to Drexel's ABSN program, in Philadelphia, PA. It is literally the shortest program in the nation at this time (11 months), but not only is it intense it is very highly regarded. I would have gone if it was not for the price tag ($38K tuition for the 11 months). Their application was VERY easy. All they require is application, which is free if submitted online, and your transcripts, that's it! No exams, recommendations or essays. Almost too good to be true if you asked me (as compared to what you need for other schools), but if you have strong grades you have a chance since after all that is the only thing they seem to look at.
They do have a slew of prereqs (like 11 or so courses including sciences) and there may be a chance you will have to take some courses that others don't require (like ethics and communications/computer science). I know they allow some to be in progress. Funny how I am selling Drexel and I am not even going there, lol ... but thought you might like to know my take on it. Heard good things about the program, shame I can't go, as I would LOVE to end my nursing school application search already and Philadelphia would have been a nice town to be in.
Good luck!
Tuition is certainly a concern for me as well..however, i am located in California right now, and ABSN programs around here are very very expensive. The one i am looking at is $60,000 for a year. So, Drexel seems to be cheaper compared to that. In any case, I have to take student loan, so at this point, just focussing on getting into a program in the first place.
Did you finish all your pre-reqs before applying? Do you think it's highly competetive to get into the program at Drexel? In addition to this, if not Drexel, what are the other programs are you looking at?
Thank you very much for sharing the information!

Southeastern Louisiana University haas a great nursing program. I will be applying there for the Spring of 2012 as a 2nd bac student as well. They admit Accelerated students for the spring and summer semesters.
The only prereqs I had outstanding when I applied were microbiology, nutrition and ethics. Drexel actually held off making a decision on my application until I submitted a new transcript with my final spring grade in micro. At that time, nutrition was in progress during the summer but I was accepted nevertheless. I am presently taking ethics but with my decision to not go to Drexel I am now just taking it for a safety ADN school that I will apply to in case the ABSNs I am applying to fall through.
I do believe it is highly competitive to get into Drexel, particularly since it's so easy to complete the application process (I literally ate dinner while filling it out and submitting it online ). If you have strong grades, particularly in the sciences, you have a decent shot. Do a search on here for Drexel's ACE program (that is what they call their ABSN) and you will read many posts from others who have applied and attended there. All the other ABSNs I am applying to only start during the summer (except for Univ of Miami, which I believe admits summer and fall).
@paco69: Thank you very much much for all the information. I am just one pre-req down so far, but not applying until august, so let me see how good i can pull up my grades. I am really keen on starting a program from januar2012, however, if that's something doesn't work out, then definitely the following summer or fall!
Do you mind to share what are the other programs you are applying to for ABSN? I initially thought of going into the ADN program, and then later go for BSN, however, in california, all the ADN programs have a 3 year waitlist. Thus decided to go for an ABSN, wherever I get in.
@thefuture2b: Thank you very much for the information! I will surely look into the program details. Also, since you are planning to apply for the same cohort as mine, do you mind to share what are the other programs/schools you are applying to?

UMD, Hopkins (starts in June), UMass, Marymount, Duke all have Spring starts. I am planning on applying to all these. However, I think the deadlines for application for most of the Spring programs is around Sept or Oct.
Aside from UMiami, I have applied to UCF and UNF in FL, and also Stony Brook in NY. My backup plans for ADN are all in NY, Phillips-Beth Israel, Cochran or Dorothea Hopfer. Their deadlines are in March/April and since ABSN decisions will come forth around that time I will know if I have to pursue the ADN route by then.
I will be applying to LSU and Texas A&M:)
