Some ideas about clothes

Published

It's OK to laugh ;p

I am a wheelchair nurse who has worked two jobs most of my life. I literally have not had a job interview for over 25 years, maybe close to 30; I heard about jobs involving people I knew and I always just walked in wearing my scrubs and said, "I hear you need a nurse, and here I am!" and I got the job.

Due to working two jobs, my disability, and living in Florida, I have not had any real clothes for decades. I wear scrubs, shorts, or jeans. I have a job interview coming up and I have no idea what to wear or where to shop. I wear a 3x (really a 2x but I would rather wear my clothes a little loose). If there are any plus-size fashion mavens out there, I'd really appreciate your help. What shall I wear? I have been looking online at some suits but they never put them on actual fat people so I don't know how they would look. I'd really love some pictures to go by, and some store suggestions. I don't care what I have to pay if I feel confident in it. I have some serious edema in my lower legs so it'll have to be a pantsuit. Shoes have to be flats. I really, really want this job and will do anything to get it. Strangely, I'm not worried about my skill level or anything, only about what to wear.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go look at pictures of Oprah!

I can't check where you are located because I'm on my phone. But a nice cropped blazer or just a generalnot-a-suitjacket type of blazer is very popular in interviews these days. I have had friends grab some plus sized interview friendly/work wear from Penningtons and Addition-Elle in Canada, or Layne Bryant and Torrid in the states. Happy shopping!

Lane Bryant has very good stuff for interviews. Also, in Florida we have Ross, and they seem to cater to plus size people...sadly not so much for petite people.

I'd just go to Ross and try on a ton of things. It will give you an idea of what looks good on you. And Good Luck!!!!

I have a girl friend who is larger (she is very well endowed as well) and she shops Coldwater Creek and Lane Bryant. Good luck with your interview!!!

I've also found some really nice clothes at Catherines (all plus size) that would be very appropriate for a job interview. Their clothes are not too "young" looking, but neither are they "frumpy old lady" stuff. They do have online shopping as well. I'd go with a nice pair of dress slacks and a longer shirt or blouse. Being in FL you may not want to add a suit jacket this time of year!

You might want to try JC Penney, Fashion Bug and the Avenue. If you want to look on line try Women With In and the web site will have a few places to pick from I think a pair of slacks and a nice shirt will be good. Good luck!

I can't thank you all enough. I went to Lane Bryant first thing and a young lady ran right to a navy blue pinstripe suit that fit me perfectly. I can't find any shoes that I can wear but I'll just polish up my New Balance shoes and hope for the best. Thanks a lot!

Avenue has a pretty selection of larger side and wide width shoes.
