Maybe you can talk to your supervisor and cut a shift. I know cutting just one shift did wonders for me.

I did cut a shift, I want to keep the job as I also love my patients/clients... They are fun, interesting, and I feel like I'd be letting them down.

If it comes down to it, maybe find a different job that works best with your schedule. I'm not sure how far along you are in school, but the further you get the more intense the work load gets. Best of luck to you!

Can you switch to PRN during the semester and work part-time between semesters? Or maybe cut back to just one shift? That way your foot stays in the door and you don't have to leave your patients entirely.

I work part time at a psych facility as a PCT/MED tech. I have Anatomy Chemistry, and Child Development this semester. I'm only a few weeks in and I'm sooooo tired. I have two children. One is older one is a toddler. My boyfriend works full time. I am thinking about NOT working and just taking loans. Be brutally honest with me... I need advice... I took the job to get patient care experience... But I regret the heck out of it ATM. Opinions on keeping the job? (The job is 12 hour NOCs)[/quote']

Do you work after school? If you do then probably too much!....when i was in Nursing school i worked Friday n Saturday and left early on Sunday 12/12/8....my classes were Monday thru Thursday....it would be helpful if you had some help with the babies or you can check to find out whether your school has child care. But do what's best for you and what you feel you can handle. I remember when i graduated i asked for 3wk vacation to sleep lol! Best wishes

Why not just ask your supervisor if you can work straight weekends or something? Working every Fri and Sat night would leave you 5 days in a row off to study.

Thank you guys, I cut another shift this weekend... And I may still go pd. my boss (a nurse) said she knows how hard it is and she's just been waiting until I cracked lol.

I am right there with you! I couldn't work and go to school full time and take care of my 2 children. I was exhausted! I cut down to very PD and it is working out much better! I am still tired but manageable!

You need to find the right balance for you. Continue to tweak your schedule and work load and go with what feels right for you. That was really important for me to understand. I was in classes with people working full time and taking a full schedule and I was just baffled. I know my limits and I could never handle that and still function! So, it may have taken me longer to finish my classes, I did so maintaining my sanity, which is priceless. Good luck to you!

I hope dropping that second day helps you! I'm glad to hear that you have a understanding supervisor who seems very willing to work with you.

There is a girl in my class who works as a CNA in a hospital and while her supervisor will schedule her around school, she won't let her drop below full time.

I had to get a new job to drop to PD. My manager would not work with my school schedule at all! She said that in her medical office (and it's part of a large hospital!) she doesn't hire RN's so I basically wouldn't be any use to her when I have a RN license. I had to go PD. I went back to PD with an old employer and it is working out so much better!
