That hurts Its the same at the cc I'm attending. I go there instead of the one in my county because they are far more working student friendly (online and weekend classes), but as I'm not a resident I can't get into their ADN program. Not at all. As in its been 4 years since anyone from out of county got into the program. It sucks, but it happens. I'm just glad I know about it going in - that must have been a heckuva nasty surprise if you didn't know this was a possibility with your school :angryfire

Sorry to vent but I am so mad. I got put on an alternate list for the nursing program because they filled all the spots with residents first. I worked hard the last three years to finish all the pre reqs while working full time and having a wonderful supporting wife and two awesome lil boys 2 and 5. But now my only option is to go on the waiting list at another school here in orlando which is a year long, I am not getting any younger.... GRRRRRRR:angryfire

I can understand...however, not sure if it makes you feel better, it is very common, especially with community colleges.

In my program, because this is such a rural area and most everyone has some kind of family everywhere, some students put down a relative's address instead of where they actually lived when they applied to the college AND the nursing program. This bumped them "up" to resident status.

Well, Karma came around...and when those students very excitedly told others of how they "got in" the first round...it wasn't a week later before phone calls started going to the Dean wondering how Suzie got in because she is from _____county.

Well, the students that got reported had to give additional documentation, and were not able to prove residency...and they got their admissions to the nursing progam yanked.

The first thing I would do, is call the school to see if non-residents EVER get accepted..because at our school, they don't. They have to accept the resident with the LOWEST amount of acceptable points (based on a combination of TEAS, GPA, etc)...before they can accept a non-resident with the HIGHEST acceptable score. Because of the amount of residents applying, non-residents are never accepted, but are put on the list.

Translation: A resident that had a 2.0 will get accepted over a non-resident with a 4.0.

The school is Lake sumter, I only applied there because they have never ever ever filled the whole class up. They only required one class that I didnt have which was some med math . I took all other classes at Valencia which is where the one year wait is. I can only hope and pray that there is a drop out.

I am on the alternate list at Lake sumter. They allow you to apply for the program if you are in your last semester of pre reqs. Valencia will not allow you to apply until you finish ALL pre reqs. I just finished the last one on Thursday so I will apply with them this week. But Valencia accepts all applicants that have pre reqs and NET done, but the down side it is a long wait.

I am not sure. The lady I have to speak with is on vacation until Thursday. The funny thing is that there were 96 slots and only 112 applicants. I have a high GPA but the county thing is what did me in.

Ok, if there were 96 slots and 112 applicants...your chances are getting in are EXCELLENT.

People apply to more than one school, can't come up with the money, fail a required course that causes their GPA to drop, women get pregnant, a TON of reasons....some don't even accept.

At my school they had over 150 applicants for 50 slots. They are already at 13 on the alternate list...right off the bat, 10 turned down their acceptance.

I am so sorry to hear about your dilemma. I wish I could offer advice, but fortunately, at my CC, they do take students based on points and the NET. We have people who live 2 hours away getting accepted because they had more points than in district folks. Just keep your chin up, keep working hard, and if it is meant to be, you WILL get in!!
