So close to seeing a delivery

but we had to go!!!:arghh: I could see the babies head, but my teacher had to go, she had an appt to get to, so we had to leave. 10 more minutes and the baby would have been here! Man!!! The pt was super awesome and let 3 of us students in, one even being male! I got to do a foley (my first!) and do a lady partsl check. Hopefully next week I'll get to see one!

Oh, that stinks! So close! I also missed out on my first birth last week :sniff:. Mom was most likely headed for a c-section, and my instructor was willing to hang out with me for an hour or so, but by the time the decision would be made, and the prep..who knows how long it would have taken. She was really close though. Oh well, there's still a few weeks left in my rotation. Hopefully we'll both get another chance!

Wow that was close! I got to see my first one last week! She let 4 students in and it was awesome!!!!

Awww you were so close! I hope you get to see it next time. It is something I will never forget and just amazing.

I would love to work in L&D.....I have a few friends in the nursing program here that said our program DOES NOT ALLOW us to do a vag exam since it's considered specialty......makes it kinda hard to learn that way......was it weird to do one?

It was kind of weird. You don't really expect to feel things up there, like the baby's head! The nurse did the check first, and then I asked if I could. She asked the pt and the pt said yes. Guess the others were afraid to ask, or something, because they were shocked when I did! Sometimes you just gotta get in there, so to speak!

totaly makes sense, I guess the worst they can say is no right?
