Six months in and...

Loving it more and more.

Been busy over the past couple of weeks that has taken me away from my computer, but on February 7th, 2006, I had my six month anniversary as a practicing RN.

When I looked over the past 6 months, I realize how far I have come as an RN. And I also see how comfortable that I have grown with the role of Registered Nurse.

I had my evaluation the other day, and my supervisor told me how proud she was of me. She has watched me deal with several emergencies over the past couple of weeks, and not once did I bat an eye.

I also found out that I will be winning an award. I think it is called the Outstanding Nurse Award, or something like that. I am humbled by all of this.

I love my job. I love the pressure, and I love the interaction with the patients.

I also enjoy when I have students, because I get to teach them why things are done in certain ways. One of my old instructors who is currently on our floor told me the other day that her students all request to have me as their primary because I keep them on their toes. And I am willing to take the time to explain things to them.

I enjoy what I do. At the end of the day, I leave work with a smile, and know that I have made a difference.

Wow! I hope in 6 months time, I'll be saying the same thing....Only been practicing for less than a month......been stressful but I know I'll get the hang of it and be able to tell people when asked that " YES, I AM A NURSE!"...At this moment, though I have the title, I just can't feel it yet so I'm still hesitant to announce that I am one! :nurse:

I will be starting my job in March. I hope I adjust well. I am very motivated and determine to do the job right and learn. My biggest fear is being burned out but I have been finding ways to remain calm and do things on a steady pace without becoming overwhelmed, which I plan to put into practice. Its a wonderful feeling being recognized as a good nurse by others. It makes you feel that you are getting the job done and special, knowing that you have made many differences in other people's life's. Keep up the good work and good luck to everyone !

Congratulations on the award, Adam!

Your posts always inspire me. As a pre-nursing student, I find your attitude and experiences to be encouraging.

What an inspiring message, Adam. I passed the board this week, and start in trauma step-down on Monday! Thank you for the uplifting and encouraging words.

Way to go Adam. It is hard to believe that the time has gone as quickly as it has isn't it? I reached my 8 month anniversary this month and it amazes me how much more comfortable I have become as well with my RN role. I also get students and not only do I get to show them that all nurses "don't eat their young" or do not want a student, I get to reinforce all things that I have learned so far and they make me feel so much more like I chose the right profession. They also remind me of how far I have come since NS too. Gosh, we just started with a batch of 2nd semester students and it reminds me of just how scary it was to be in their shoes nearly 3 years ago.

Wishing you much continued success in making it to the end of that magic 1 year mark!! Grin

I know, how fast time goes by! I've now been an RN for 7 months and I still get so excited and feel special when I write those initials after my name. :) Keep up the good work. :)

Hi, Congratulations Adam and what a relief it is to hear from people who are enjoying their careers in nursing. I started this week but only in orientation and then I will be on the floor, ER 7pm - 7 am. The question I have is, out of all of you that love your job do any of you have nights? This is a fear for me and so many people report hating it so bad. Let me know. Thanks

Sorry, I work days just b/c I am a "day" person.

I have only been a RN for a month and I work quite the variety of shifts. 3a-3p, 3p-3a, 7a-3p, 7p-7a. And I have to say I absolutely love it!! I am learning so much about the flow of each shift and I think it is really helping develop into a professional nurse. Others would hate these swing shifts but it works great with my life. I work two 12 hour shift a week, each week consists of two of the same shifts and these rotate every six weeks. I like the day shifts as much as I do the nights. Hope that helps??? :)

Congratulations to you on a successful 6 months, and further congrats on the award!talk008.gif

I work 3rd shift and I still love my job, lol! I might be switching to 1st shift, but I have some fears about doing so. But I'm sure I'll like 1st shift just as much as I love 3rds. And it's been over 8 moths!
