Should I take the classes or not?

Here is what I did:

I focused on the requirements for 1 school, which was my top choice school. I chose this school because admission are merit based, not random selection or wait list.

By meeting their prereq and co req reqmts, I also met reqmts for some lottery schools.

I decided to take 1 additional class because it would qualify me to apply for the LVN program and because some CNA classes reqd it.

I will be able to apply to 4-5 nursing schools this year using this system.

There are tons of schools within 1-2 hrs from me that I can't apply to because they have 1 different prereqs.

This is what I did. SO, I recommend you decide which school is your top choice and go from there.

Everyone tells me to apply to every nursing school just in case. They tell me to apply to every school so I will at least get into one of the schools. Well for some nursing schools, one class is required but for the other school it is not required. So do I take the class or not? For instance, Marriage and Family is required for one school but not the others that I plan to apply to. Also General Biology is required for 2 of the schools I'm applying to but not the others. To sum it up, What if I do NOT take the class and I do not get into the nursing school that it was not required and mess up my chances of getting into the nursing school that did require it if I had taken it. I don't know if that makes sense lol I know it sounds confusing. Advice please?

This is what I did:

I would write out a list of all the prereq's for all of the schools you are thinking of applying to. Find the common basic prereq's that all of the schools require (usually english, anatomy, physiology ect) and start on those right away. You can probably start applying to these schools when you are done with the common prerequisites.

Then as you are waiting on acceptance/rejection letters from the schools you applied to you can start taking the other random classes that some schools require. Compare the application periods of the schools (sometimes you can only apply at certain times once or twice a year) to decide what order to take the extra classes in.

One big thing you need to look at is if these classes are prerequisites or co-requisites for the nursing programs you're looking at. prerequisites would carry a heavier weight if you were or were not to complete them.

Ok everyone...this is the thing. I noticed someone stated to just choose my top choice school and go from there. I have to be realistic. I'm not going to apply to just one school. What if I do not get into that ONE school? Then what? Also I did make that list and all the schools that I plan to apply to do pretty much require the same courses. For instance, the only courses they all don't have in common is a computer class and General Biology. So I take those classes later?

I think what they meant was complete those requirements first. While you are waiting to hear from them, do the other classes. That way, if you do not get in, you are already on your way to applying to another school. If you do get in, you can drop the class or complete it depending on when you find out.

Take the class it can't hurt. It looks good on the resume.
