SHOES??

Hello All,

What kind of shoes does everyone prefer in the OR? I have started to look for something that will be comfortable for standing all day and durable...

I've heard that Danskos or Sanitas might be good... I tried on some Born but felt like I might fall off the taller heel! :sarcastic:

Recommendations will be greatly appreciated!

You might want to try the patent leather Sanitas...you can clean them without ruining the finish. Some people say Sanitas run narrow, but they work great for me.

A very good point, Rose Queen.

Lol, I recently emailed the people at Dansko about using Cavi Wipes on my leather clogs. The response I got was "Use our leather conditioner to keep your shoes in tip top shape!" I wrote them back and said, "That's nice, but when my shoes get puked/pooped/bled on, leather conditioner ain't gonna cut it." No response back.

Anecdote: as a student I knew a nurse with (red) patent leather danskos. She stated that she used cavi wipes daily on her danskos and had seen no damage. At the time I met her she had been following this practice for over a year with no problems.

I don't work OR, but have a comment on Sanitas. I loved them because it reduced my plantar fasciitis. But then I began having knee problems. The podiatrist I saw had really negative feedback about the shoes. He said they help fasciitis because they don't allow you to flex the foot but it leads to other problems. Just my experience

Glad I saw this! I was considering getting some sanitas to trade off with my sneakers. Well there goes that!

The arch placement in Sanitas is different than Danskos. I can't even stand a few minutes in Danskos but I have replaced all my "normal" shoes except my sneakers with Sanitas because they support my foot and minimize my back pain. Go to the store and try them on before making a choice. I don't find Sanitas to be narrow at all...they fit my slightly wide foot well. I wear my Sanitas at work...and change into my sneakers (New Balance with an expensive arch support added) after shift...the change from a snug fit to a loose fit is just what I need after 13 hours standing.

After starting this thread, I started researching and found it interesting that the Danskos of the past are no longer available.... unless you buy Sanita, who had been the original manufacturer of Dansko. When they split in 2007 or 2008, the production of Danskos was sourced out... 80% to China! It is possible to get Danskos NOT made in China... check the inside of the upper leather. If it is made in Italy or Poland, it should be fine, and may still be made by Sanita. Many people find the fit of Dansko unacceptable now, likely due to the lower quality construction in China.

After trying on many pairs in both brands, I bought a pair of black leather Professional Dansko (made in Italy!) and a pair of glossy gray Sanita. The feel, fit and construction of both seems identical. Both seem to be easy to clean, especially the glossy ones.

I will continue to check out the other brands, and plan on having multiple pairs of shoes for different functions.

Thanks so much to everyone who replied!!

Are the Sanitas as hard as the new Danskos? Do they have as much arch? I've tried on Danskos but 3 steps is all it takes to leave my arch feeling bruised for a week! Even the xp ones which are cushier have too much arch.

I like the sketchers shape ups.

I do not work or. I assume or nurses stand quite a bit. Im an Lvn student turned floor nurse (stand, sit, run, stand, walk, run, run, sit, run) who is now a clinical student once again.

Re: Sanitas: I read that they were more narrow than Danskos. But I did try them on and found the fit comparable. I have a very wide foot. I haven't purchased any Sanitas though. Maybe one day....

For now, I have 2 pairs of white Danskos. As well as Patent leather, rainbow and snakeskin.

I also own one pair of allegrias.

I love nursing shoes! I heart Danskos!!

I will add though, that the non patent leather ones are more flexible for the times I bend, stoop, which is often.

The patent leather is easier to clean though...
