May 26, 201016 yr I'm getting ready to finally apply to programs in a few cities. One place is SFSU. However, on their website, they write the following:"You must meet the following criteria to be eligible to apply to our undergraduate nursing programs: 1) Be a California Resident..."Am I to understand that they do not accept ANY out of state applicants? This is the first I have ever heard of such a thing.
May 26, 201016 yr That is true...... SFSU is also really hard to get into anyways. Do you have other options closers to where you live?
May 26, 201016 yr Yeah. I've seen other programs do it.. at CSUEB, California residents get priority, so an out-of-state student would only be accepted if there weren't enough CA residents to fill spaces (which wouldn't happen).
May 26, 201016 yr Author It seems the school would make much more $$$ if they allowed out of staters to pay their inflated tuition. I don't get it. I live in the Denver area, and unfortunately there is really only one great BSN program in the state, University of Colorado @Denver. That's my number one, and then Johns Hopkins and University of Maryland Baltimore. Wish there was more in San Francisco - I love it there!
May 26, 201016 yr What about USF, University of San Francisco?Or Samuel Merritt University.. they have a San Francisco campus.

Actually I appreciate that SFSU applicants have to be California residents. As a California resident we pay the taxes that help support the public education in the state. There aren't enough spots for all want to be California nurses as it is so I have to say SFSU has this right. It would be way too easy for schools to take out of state students to get the extra $$$$There are some private schools in California as others have said. USF, Domincan University, Samuel Merritt, Biola, Azusa, Loyola Maramount.Good luck with your decision.
May 27, 201016 yr Experts State schools are supported by state monies and by intention are meant for the education of state residents. There is an overabundance of CA state residents who can not be accommodated in CA state schools. They should always receive priority.
