UNMC Leadership Degree
hi everyone! my name is lauren and i am a project associate at the university of nebraska medical center. i am working on a program called lead, or nurse leader executive advanced degree program. nebraska faces a critical nursing shortage. health care urgently needs not just more nurses, but the market also demands higher education among current rns, precisely becasue they affect care so directly and immediately. lead will increase your expertise, expand your skills and equip you with new credentials to advance your career. it will prepare you to help lead nursing into the next generation. the benefits are several: greater professional respect, career options and earnings potential, higher quality care and better outcomes for you patients, and increased career satisfaction in leadership roles that advance nursing and mentor other nurses. there are three pathways in this program. rn to msn: an accelerated path for rn's with an associates degree or diploma in nursing. bsn to msn - for rn's with a bachelor's degree. pmc- postmaster's certificate: for rns with a msn degree who desire advanced leadership education. this curriculum is also web-based. student from a different area of nebraska can learn online. clinical requirements can be satisfied in your community or one nearby. we offer full-time and part-time plans of study for working nurses. the deadline for the fall 2011 semester for application is march 1st. and the deadline for the winter 2012 semester is august 1st. here is a link to the online application http://www.unmc.edu/nursing/application_process_graduate_programs.htm for more information or questions about this program please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or at 402-559-6618.

Creighton accelerated nursing program
Hello all: I read some interesting advice re the cost of Creighton University's accelerated nursing program. I have another question: Is it really that intense? Right now I'm at a two-year college getting my science credits in hopes of qualifying for Creighton's accelerated nursing program. My anatomy professor said he knew someone who tried Creighton's program and "it almost killed her." Seriously? I really don't want to opt for a slower-paced and more traditional route; I don't have the time (I'm in my 40s) and I don't have the resources. Any opinions on this?

What schools can you get into with a 3.6 GPA?
Any schools in Omaha, really. I'm really scared I won't make it in to any schools with a 3.6 GPA. I haven't taken microbiology or a&p II yet, so I might raise my GPA by the time I apply to any schools. However, I am still worried. What are the difficulties of different Omaha schools? What are the accepted GPA's like? I need some help.

Creighton's ACC
Hi all: So, I got a late acceptance to Creighton University's accelerated nursing program for August 2011. Yay! Question is: Is it really that impossible to work part-time while going through the program? I know you are strongly urged not to, but you also are strongly urged not work your first year in college, and I did that and did fine. My part-time hours would be Friday night and Saturday night, so they would not interfere with any late-night clinicals, or most Saturday ones. Any insights? I'd be willing to jettison the part-time hours, but it would be nice to have a little cash if possible. Give me the benefit of your experience/insight/wisdom!

How's Omaha?
Hello Nebraska Nurses! I have just been accepted into Creighton University's accelerated BSN program and I currently live outside of Seattle in Washington State. I was hoping I could get some insight into the nursing job climate in Omaha, Creighton's nursing program, and any general information about Omaha. Are new nurses getting jobs in Omaha? What is the overall reputation of Creighton's nursing program? How well prepared are new grads from CU? Also, for any CU accelerated BSN alumni, did you have a positive experience in the program and did you feel that you learned everything you needed to in such a short program? If you can answer any or all of my question it would be a great help! Thanks very much, I really appreciate it!

College of Saint Mary
Does anyone have any information on this program? I am interested in getting my BSN but I kind of like the idea of getting to start nursing classes right away and getting my ASN along the way. I am worried about financial aid though because of the fact that the program is broken down into 2 degrees. I will be over the 150% max credit hours for aid for an associates degree but not for a bachelors. I definitely cannot afford College of Saint Mary without it. Also, does anyone know how hard it is to get in?

passing advice?
I am in an LPN program for the second time in a different school. I always do well in clinical, class, and on assignments. My patients ALWAYS say what a great nurse I will be and how wonderful I do, they even tell my instructors when they come in to check on me. My current instructor says many times how she's not worried about me, how awesome I do, and how I always come prepared and know my stuff. My classmates always ask me questions about material and about what they should do for care plans, even asking what their patient's diagnosis means. However, the end of my 2nd term is coming to an in mid December and once again, my grades are great and above the 79% that is mandatory to pass, except for my exam percentage. Your average test score also needs to be 70% or above. And in one of my classes (just like the last program) is a little below. I have always had difficulties with tests and I feel that this program is my last shot and if I fail I will be lost. I already know the "secrets" to taking tests and studying and I've literally done it all! I am going on my 6th year of college and can't even get past an LPN program let alone a RN-BSN. Can anyone give me any advice? On my last test and final for one course (the one that is below 79% for my test average), I can only miss 9 questions. The test is 50 questions and the final is 100. For me, this seems impossible. ANY help or advice would be great! I'm so distraught and want this more than anything, but feel that my chance of being a nurse is coming to an end! Thanks in advance. -lost student

What are the best wound care resources available in Nebraska
I'm an RN in Louisiana; I have a friend in rural Nebraska with a foot/ankle infected wound since January. Shes not diabetic nor have bad circulation, no cultures done but bone scan done this week shows potential osteomylitis. Her doctor says she may loose her foot and has FINALLY referred her to an orthopedic doc, (first appointment is late next week). I would like to find out what kind of wound care resources are available in her area so she may save her foot if its possible!! Wondering if there any infectious disease and/or, wound care specialists or hyperbaric treatment available around Kearny Nebraska. She works for VA so has fairly good insurance and is willing to go wherever the best wound care is available to try to save her foot!

Maybe relocating to Nebraska/ Clarkson College
Hello Everyone, I currently live in Southern California and have all my life. I recently applied to Clarkson College BSN program for Fall of 2012. Can anyone tell me what the program is like? What about living in Nebraska? I'm excited to live somewhere new. Is the job market better in NE than in California? I'll be a student for at least 3 yrs so I know it can change by then. Thanks!

Nebraska RN jobs...looking for one!
Hi Allnurses, I just recently moved to NE in June and I just recently passed the NCLEX in September. I know I have been applying for RN jobs in the Bellevue-Omaha area, but so far it has been a week and nothing...not even a phone call! :uhoh3:I have received "rejection emails" which are not very motivating from two places. I might have a potential for this one job, but who knows. So far I feel that I have applied to every possible place, even though I just started on this career search journey. I don't want to lose hope. I just need some suggestions of what jobs are possibly available and encouragement to keep my head up and not be discouraged. I've already read some posts about the nursing job market and it's not looking too pretty right now. I'm looking for anything that I can possibly get at this point...I'm not picky at all! Just to get my foot in the door someplace would make me happy.

Nursing student feeling a little overwhelmed
Hello everyone, I just recently started the remainder of my first term of the nursing program. I am feeling a little my last term was easy and finished with A's. I know that this time it will not be as easy after my first day of class to find out I have to read seven chapters, study for a quiz, and some how find a way to sqeeze algebra in there I am feeling a little overwhelmed. I know it can be done but I know it will be extremely hard. I do work part time which is all weekend and not to mention I am a proud mother of four. Since I was a little girl I dreamed of being a nurse it took my son to kick me in the butt to get me motivated. I also feel like God put us all here for a reason and I feel that my reason was to take care of the sick, disabled, etc. I'm afraid of letting myself down but most of all I'm afraid of letting my children down. Please I need some motivational words!

College of Saint Mary vs. Metropolitan Community College for ADN?
My family and I just recently moved to Omaha, NE. Just couple of weeks ago I got my acceptance letter from College of Saint Mary for their 2 year ADN program. Due to the high attendance cost, however, I decided to apply for the LPN program at Metropolitan Community College. (My plan is to do one year LPN and then second year ADN at Metro) I believe I have good chances to be accepted into the LPN program at Metro. I would like to start school this year and also, after graduating with ADN and hopefully passing my boards, I am hoping to proceed my education and apply for a BSN program. I am hoping to hear your experiences/ advice on ADN programs at CSM/ Metro. Since BSN is my goal, would it be better (definitely cheaper!) for me to go to Metro for ADN and then apply to another school for BSN program? If you attended one of the two above mentioned schools, do you feel like you were well prepared for your job? Would you recommend this school/ program to somebody else? I would truly appreciate any information. Thanks in advance.

Calling in RX?
So, at my clinic, I was made aware that before I started and after the old nurse left, a coworker used to call in prescriptions for the nurse practitioner. This coworker of mine has no medical background, and is essentially a secretary for the clinic. I was slightly horrified. I asked someone else why she would be given that particular duty, and they said that they all used to do it because you don't need a license or anything to call in prescriptions. But they're so glad I'm here now so I can do it! I was trying to find a legal requirement or something, but I couldn't find one. I saw a discussion here but it looked like it varied by state. So, fellow Nebraskans, now I'm wondering: what are the requirements of the person who calls in prescriptions for the prescriber? Thanks!

UNLV Spring 2012 admission
Hello, I have a friend who applied to the UNLV nursing program for Spring 2012. They were told they would hear something by Nov 15th. Has anyone else heard if they've been accepted yet? If so, what was your composite score. My friend has a total of 89 points and is currently missing one course that they are enrolled in now. Thanks everyone.

UNMC NICU or any other NICUs...
Hi folks, I've recently made the jump from PICU to NICU and have been working in NICU for about a year now. My husband and I are thinking about moving to Omaha next year and I'm just wondering what the NICUs are like over there? So far in Omaha, I've been able to track: UNMC (looks like Level IIIC with ECMO, do nurses go to deliveries?) Creighton (level III?) Children's Omaha (Level IIIC, but no deliveries?) Bergan Mercy (Level III, but basic?) Lakeside Hospital (Level II) I work in a pediatric hospital now, but would also like to get some delivery room experience. Any info anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated :)

Which Omaha Hospital?
Hi all, I'm having difficulty deciding between doing an ABSN at Creighton or Methodist. Disclaimer: I haven't been accepted at either school yet, but they require some slightly different prerequisites. I'm trying to lay out my prereq plan right now. 1. Does where you go to school have any impact on the ease of getting hired by that particular hospital? For example, if I want to work for Methodist after nursing school, should I go to Methodist? 2. Which health system is better to work for? Methodist or Creighton? Thank you so much for any help you can offer!

Creighton ABSN Fall 2016
Hello! I just got accepted to Creighton University's Accelerated BSN program for Fall 2016 start. I didn't see a thread posted for this cohort, so I was wondering if there were any others out there who got accepted and are planning on going to Creighton / applied / waitlisted / maybe going. Also, if any current students or CU grads have any light to shed on this program, on Omaha in general, places to live, do i need a car, etc. Thanks!
