SDSU Fall 2010 BSN program

I've been lurking around allnurses.com for a while, and I finally signed up! I was hoping to find some others that were applying to SDSU's nursing program for Fall 2010. I just submitted my application to the school, and I'm working on the actual nursing app now.

I'm super worried about the point system. While my great are fine (at a 3.71 cumulative), I'm worried about not having any hospital experience. I'm hoping that not having experience doesn't take me out of the running. I'm waiting until the end of this semester, I think, to take the TEAS.

I'd love to hear from any with advice or anyone who is applying for Fall 2010.

Have you checked assist.org? My counselor told me to just follow that plan since its the articulation plan thats written by the college itself (in this case, SDSU). I'm not sure where you can find the average of accepted students..

I've heard the cut off was 70 points because the program was so competitive but of course, it depends on the applicants for that year.

Congrats Coriander! and if you wouldn't mind, could you post your stats? I'd like to see what range they're looking for.

Also, do they give you points based on your gpa before this semester? What I mean is, I'm still finishing up Microbiology and Chem 11 so are the points awarded for my prereq gpa going to be the classes I've finished only? Or do they start awarding points and such after you turn in your spring grades?

Thank you :) They will wait until your grades are turned in to award you points for those classes you still need. For the Fall, the point cut-off was 72, and for the Spring it was 70. (I think.) I didn't get in for the Fall because i had a C- in my Intro to Psych class from 1992. I had to retake that one, which was ok since they allow courses over 7 years old to be repeated.

I don't have everything written down in front of me, but I can give you my grades and cumulative GPA, etc. etc.

TEAS: 92%

Cumulative GPA: 3.2 (With a 3.9 over the past three years. I started back to college with a 1.32 GPA.)

PreRequisites

Intro to Sociology: A-

Intro to Psych: A (the second time)

Anatomy: B+

Physiology: A

Microbiology: A

Chemistry 102 (the three-in-one): A

Oral Communication: A

I also had over 600 hours of work experience and an Associate's Degree in Spanish.

I hope this helps. I often used other people as guidelines.

They were talking about having changed guidelines going into Fall 2010, so I would call them and be absolutely sure about their requirements.

All the best, and please feel free to ask me any other questions. I'll try to find out the answers for you. :redpinkhe

Wow you must've worked hard in your classes, those are awesome grades! Did they count your cum. gpa as 3.2 or 3.9?

I haven't called but I looked on the sdsu nursing website and just looked at the criteria page they had up. I'm assuming its still valid for those of us applying for this fall.

I do wish I had work experience. The points would help me out!

Hello! I am a second semester SDSU nursing student and I just wanted to tell everyone I wish them the best of luck in getting in for Fall of 2010! I used to visit this site a lot when I was trying to apply and it helped so much to hear from all of the other applicants. I am happy to answer any questions that anyone has about getting in, but I am sure the criteria is a little different now.

Best of luck!

Alexis

glad to see i am not the only sdsu prospective here. i was ready to transfer to sdsu this semester as a bio major but at the last minute i decided working in bio lab was not for me so i changed to a bsn major. i have already had chem classes like chem 200,201, and 230 which now seems like a waste as chem 100 and 130 would have sufficed, but i need a few courses that i did not take before like soc anatomy, and phsy. i took the a&p combo but not the separate ones. after that i am good to go so i will be going for fall 11. i have one bad grade, a c in molecular bio which is not a required course, so i am hoping i can throw that class away. i have one concern. according to a tag agreement i got off the net, there are 4 major prep classes needed not offered at the cc.

major preparation nurs 200 informatics for the nurse (1)|no comparable course --------------------------------------------------------------------------------nurs 202 client assessment (4)|no comparable course --------------------------------------------------------------------------------nurs 206 fundamentals of nursing (5)|no comparable course practice | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------nurs 208 pathophysiology (3)|no comparable course

just curious, how have you taken care of these required classes? i was thinking we need these before starting nursing school,

otherwise we might get swamped.

hi! :)

the four classes you listed are actually first semester nursing courses (which i'm going through right now). you'll take these your first semester in the program.

Thanks for the info, great to know. I was worried about those classes at transfer time. I guess assist.org is not the best for figuring out transfer classes.

Hey everybody, I have noticed that this thread hasn't really been commented on. I am still waiting for the admission decision for Fall 2010. Does anybody know by chance when that will be? This wait is driving me insane and im quite nervous but optimistic as well. If anybody can give me any feedback that would be amazing.

Thank you and God Bless
