Good Friday! Do any of you have tips on getting help for conducting screenings? I am the only nurse at a K-8 charter school, so I'm by myself on getting this done. I'm not allowed to interrupt instructional time except for emergencies (screenings will be done during the kids' Specials period).

I am the only nurse pre k-12 Here in a Texas public school. I screen prek 1st 3rd 5th 7th and any new student or students who just need to be checked. I start my day with a few before school ever starts I pull from specials, pe and sometimes even recess. But I do all screenings my self with occasional help from an aide when she has a free minute. Best thing you can do is just keep at it. It is a slow process but try to fit as many screens as you can into each day.

Do you have a local college in your area? Maybe you can get some student nurses to help? Do you have IA's in your school that can help?

One year I involved the PTA in screening. They've all signed the district's paperwork to have permission to be on campus. I used them as wranglers and as scribes.
What you describe is unfortunately not enough time to screen. Ideally we'd love not to pull kids out of content but realistically, how long are the specials periods?
Also close the clinic to all but screenings.

Haven't thought about that. I'll certainly reach out to our colleges

We typically involve parent volunteers to help direct the kids. Specials is 40 minutes. Each class is 25-30 students. Absolutely not enough time.
And of course I'm expected to make (and abide by) a screening schedule. *insert eye roll*
