Ok I finish my LPN in exactly 1 month. I am really interested in completing my RN thru Excelsior but for some reason I am scared to death to make this transition. I am used to a brink and mortor school, although I have taken some classes online before.
I think the fear of the unknown, fear of failing, fear of not completing the program, fear of wasting money, fear of doing the wrong thing is getting the best of me.
Those of you using Excelsior, are you happy that you did? Do you prefer it over a traditional brick and mortor school? Do you have any regrets?? PLEASE HELP! Thanks so much!

Get over your fears and just do it! I enrolled in EC 2 months after I graduated with my LPN. The next year, just 12 months later. I completed the whole program and passed the CPNE. Fear will keep you an LPN for 10+ years if you allow it.(of course there is nothing wrong with that if thats what you want) Pay your 75 dollars after LPN school and have your transcripts evaluated. You can take 2 nursing courses before you have to pay the $900 enrollment fee. Also FYI, Excelsior is not an online program. Its really a self study program. You get the studyguide, buy the books/learning material and read and study till you feel confident enough that you know the material. You take the test at a Pearson Vue learnng Center. It takes alot of motivation and determination because you don't have anyone hounding you to study the material. I suggest you concentrate on finishing LPN school, pass your boards an the give EC a try. Don't worry about all the what if's right now. You have too much on your plate.

I've been an LPN for 15 years and I just became an Excelsior RN last week. When I finally made the decision to go back it only took me a year to complete and I am so happy to finally have this done. For me, I try not to have regrets because as an LPN I had GREAT experiences in ICU, telemetry and pretty much every part of the hospital. I learned sooo much. BUT, if I had to do it all over again I would have enrolled in excelsior the day I graduated LPN school. Please don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it without years of LPN experience because that is simply not true. I work with a girl who graduated LPN school and immediately went into excelsior and had her RN in under a year. You can do this if you want it. Plus, ALLNURSES is the best place for support and encouragement. Good luck.

Just be aware that EC is not accepted in a couple of states, so there are places where you will never be able to work as an RN.

@MissingMyErica, Can you please tell me how you got through excelsiors program in a year? What route did you take in regards to taking the pre-reqs etc. I'm doing the self study with ISU and I'm getting pretty lazy. lol
