salarys and more....

Ok, Ive made the move to get traveling, but still have questions. Other then California, what is the typical ICU RN take home pay a week with some of your companys?

I was just told about a possible job in New London CT, any thoughts?

There is no typical weekly take home pay. It's so different for all of us. Just remember that everything is negotiable. What is your company offering you for the job in New London? Have you been submitted there and made an offer? Will you be taking company provided housing or the stipend? Break it down for us and we can better help!

He is ready to submit me as soon as give him the ok. Im seriously getting cold feet! He told me my weekly take home pay will be 1200 after taxes with the stipend. So I will have to find a place, pay rent and bills. So they work the stipend right into your pay. My daughter is also a nurse and traveling with me. What I've read is for one to take the stipend, and one get the apartment paid for. But, if this company works it right into the pay, how do we split "all that extra money?" The housing stipend is 2,900 a month. I am an ICU nurse. My cousin is a med surg travel nurse with the same company and she is getting the same amount as me working in my homestate of Pa. I'm just leary even though it is actually double my salary. But I'm giving up a full time job with benifits.

So you are getting 1200 total, including the stipend? What about moving expenses? I am not a travel nurse, but that doesn't sound very impressive to me.

Take your daughter out of the equation and ask yourself.. $1200/week minus housing= X. Is X worth you leaving your full time job with benni's?

Since you are currently working you can afford to be much more picky and choosy. I would suggest you shop around or at least ask for a better deal. Im guess you'd be lucky to clear $800/week after housing on your current offer.

When talking with recruiters tell them to break your money down. You need to know the HOURLY taxable rate, your daily per diem, your daily housing money. Then sit down and run the math. Do NOT let them tell you "$1200 a week"

Something doesn't add up here. If they are giving you $2900 a month for housing that comes out to $95.34 per day x14 days per pay period=$1334.79 per check that you should receive in HOUSING ALONE. Something doesn't add up!

As far as you and your daughter traveling...yes that can be good. But not all travel companies will set up your housing. What company are you talking with?

Break down every penny. Daughter traveling with you lets me know you might want taxable income. We get in the age bracket of paying in to our Social Security to increase our retirement benefits. You might not want to show a low income in the later years before retirement.

Ok, broke down like this. 16 .00 hr 300 travel expense.

Are companys negotioble? If I say to my recruiter, "If you include my housing in the 1200 a week, I will take it." Im now a little disillusioned about how much money I will make. I was told ICU nurses make so much more, and now am finding out this isn't true.

Just say no to $16.00 per hr. The $300.00 travel pay should be X's 2..going and return home, actually that needs to increase due to gas increase. Anything under $25.00 hrly for first travel job would be insulting. Meals and incidentals and housing stipend depend on the area you are in.

You're being low balled on your finances. I'd dump the recruiter and the company. That is a complete insult and they are trying to make money off of your back because you are a first time traveler. I would *never* take a travel job less than 20 an hour. You are being taken advantage of. What company is this? What companies are you signed up for? $16/hr taxable wage is just asking for trouble in the long run.

I agree.. $16/HR in 2012??? That is freaking nuts! I would RUN and not look back.

Use this as a baseline--- $29/HR & $1400/month Housing. There is a company offering that right now in Houston TX.

79 Tango...Tried to PM you for the Company in Houston's name. I have family there and it is rodeo time too!!! Would love to work there.

Sounds kind of fishy to me. No I don't make more money an hour than I did doing Agency, but they are paying for my housing. I am bill free pretty much, so I get to save what I would be spending on rent. I took less (not $16/hour) when I did travel in 2008 and learned my lesson.

On another note, unless the housing they are picking is expensive maybe that is why such the difference? I know if I had them check out a place more expensive it takes away more from my hourly home pay.

Things you need to consider. You are experienced and doing this with little to no orientation. So, you deserve to make more than what you are use to. Otherwise, find another agency, who will get what you want, there are so many.
