RN Evening Program in NYC

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this site. I'm bascially looking for an evening RN program in NYC . As I've looked around, there seems to be very few that caters to students looking for part-time study. At present, I have an AAS Degree in Medical Office Assisting from Bronx Community College and a BS in Health Education Promotion from Lehman College. Now of course, I would love to attend Lehman's nursing program but they only offer day classes. Since I'm a single mother of (2) children 2 yrs old and 10 yr old, I need to work. Currently, I serve as the Clinical Admin. Asst. for Cardiothoracic Surgery but my fulfillment lies in being clinical, handling the care/medical management of the patients that I see. Despite my children and the need to work full-time, I believe with hard work and dedication - ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH GOD! So my projected date of entering a nursing program would be 2007. If anyone could be of assistance, I would greatly appreciate it.

**Note: A friend suggested that I become an LPN first then work my way up? What are your thoughts about that statement? Would that be the wiser choice given my current situation?

I know LIU in Bklyn has an evening program but it's not very good... I actually went there and transferred out because it sucked.

Now I'm at Nassau Community College's evening program. They have an excellent nursing program. Those are the only 2 schools I know of with evening RN programs.

Since you have previous degrees, I would recomment Beth Israel School of Nursing in the city. It's a 2 year program and you are eligible to sit for the RN exam. I would not recommend going for the LPN cause there is always the chance that you may get lazy and not want to go back. So just go for the 2 years, get your RN and if you want later on, have your employer pay for your BSN or you can opt to go straight for the MSN, since you have a Bachelor's already. I believe the program is called ATOP...I believe you go to school Thurs eve, all day Friday and all day Sat, but don't quote me on this. Find out for yourself. Good Luck.

Queensborough Community College (QCC) has an evening nursing program. I'm starting in January 2007 so I don't know more about the program BUT everyone has been so nice and the tuition with it being a CUNY school, is very low at $120/per credit. The Admissions Department is great and very helpful!

You could check out Hopfer School of Nursing in Mount Vernon and St. John's Riverside Hospital in Yonker. Both have evening programs that start in January. Hopfer's tuition is almost as low as a CUNY education. Google the schools for more info.

QCC's evening nursing program only starts in the Fall. And they require you to finish all your science prereqs (not just A&P1) before starting the program. Something to keep in mind because you could be stuck with a semester taking a 1 credit gym class.

BMCC is offering evening program as well and I know that La Guardia community college did offer...

NCC just started offering evening programs starting in January - up until recently they only started in the Fall. :)

I am planning on attending NCC in the fall or spring...I am a lpn grad wanted to know how the program is.....any advice will help.
