Finishing up the writing requirement now......

the writing requirement is what's holding me back. I can't get over the fact that I have to take a writing class with an aa, 3 as's, 2 bsn classes and a bachelor's. are you doing it through excelsior lyndaa?

No, I'm going through BYU.....it's self paced as opposed to 15 weeks and it's only $489. You have a bachelors and they are STILL making you take the class???? I have one BSN course under my belt which they accepted. It was nothing but papers and I got an A in the class. Yet EC didn't cut me any slack with the writing requirement either. But to already hold a bachelors, I would ask again about that because at one point in the past, that would have given you an exempt from the class.

I am exempt from the first english requirement, but not the second. I've talked to at least 3 different advisors :( this is basiucally the only reason I haven't enrolled. it just chafes me big time.

thanks for the info.

Wow!!!!! I know it does!!! The course with BYU has a LOT of papers to write. It also has speedback assisgnments (multiple choice quizzes) which are open book. But the essays are never-ending. They really are not that bad. It's just that you give your all in a 4-6 page essay; then you have to write another 4-6 page essay to critique the main essay before you can submit it. I'm running out of things to say. But I will find the words because I'm down to the last big essay. Of course, I will have to do the submission essay afterwards.:banghead:

I started the RN-BSN with Chamberlain and withdrew when they would accept my statistics from straighterline. There is just no way I can EVER repeat Statistics! I really hated to leave Chamberlain because I would have completed their program in under a year, based on the credits I already had. Have you looked into their program or American Sentinel University? I don't believe either of those have a writing requirement.

I'm not saying one must have "writing for the profession" (Excelsior's writing course) to be a successful BSN, but as I get close to the finish of the Excelsior's BSN program I know why they required it. Every BSN nursing course requires minimally one paper, most require 2-3. Also they want each weekly posting formatted APA (the stricter the better, though I see plenty of folks lacking). Writing papers for these courses is pretty much the only way to evaluate learning. I find it completely reasonable for them to take a course that teaches exactly how their want their papers done.

I needed the course very desperately as I had only taken one lower level English course. My husband however had a previous unrelated bachelor's and graduate degree (communications & management). Without ENG 201, he would never have known how to write the kinds of papers Excelsior wanted even though he had written papers on a weekly basis in grad school.

Phoenix is similar (8 substantive apa style posts per week with an assignment, paper, and/or group project weekly). Everything is apa, including powerpoints. I took two of their 5 week bsn courses concurrently and got a's in both. Would like to stay there but too pricey. You don't need a class to learn apa. It's a moot point anyway.

Just reading the post, what is BYU and is that where you are taking the writing assignment y'all are talking about? How is it compared to excelsiors?

Okay, so I've read the whole thread to see why you choose BYU for it over EC.

brigham young university. excelsior has a list of other places to take this class since they realize a ton of people do it since their's is ridiculously overpriced and unnecessary. you don't even have to necessarily use apa in it, which further drives home the point that it's a money maker just like "information literacy". what a joke.

I've attached the list to this post.

Thanks, I so agree. I will check into that. As for the "information literacy" I still can not get over I had to pay I think $390 for that 1 credit class and what is contained of, not to mention only receiving not a letter grade but a pass. Wow is what I'm left with lol!
