RMN's in Canada?

Published

I'm helping someone research information about immigrating to Canada from the UK as an RMN, and since they are not a member of allnurses, thought I would ask you good people :)

So....is it possible? Does Canada recognise RMN? And if so, what's the first step the nurse should do with regard to immigration?

I admit to knowing absolute zero about the Canadian process.

Thanks :)

Ok I'll bite. What is an RMN?

Think that they are only be recognized in BC at this time, and not needing the full RN credentialling for there. This is what I have been hearing.

If you contact the college of nursing for the province you wish to work for they will tell you how to apply and what their requirements are. Each province is different.Best of luck.

Depends on the province and whether they accept RMN, not all will. Nova Scotia definitely doesn't.

Can only find these provinces with mental health nursing but not sure if they will accept

RMN

The College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba

The Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan

Registered Psychiatric Nurse in British Columbia

Did see a link for Alberta but the link wasn't working

The Psychiatric RN designation is only found in the western Provinces, including Alberta.

Here's a job posting from my health authority:

They make the same as an RN. Word has it, that the Psych RN education is becoming a degree course just like the RN has.

Most of the postings are for the local Psych hospital but they also work in the active treatment hospitals on the psych units there.

For some reason, I seem to remember there being a difference in the amount of A&P in the two educations and the Reg Psych Nurses needed to do an extra course to work in active treatment.
