Rescheduled Frontier Interview

I had to reschedule my interview with the ADN-MSN admissions director from this Wednesday, to this Thursday. I hope rescheduling doesn't hurt my chances for admission!

I didn't know how to really explain why when I emailed a request to change my appt day and time. The thing is, I'm involved in an ongoing custody battle with my ex-husband, and Wednesday morning is an important court date, that was just scheduled recently (at the last minute) & I had no say in when it would be scheduled. It's a very important court date regarding custody of my son, and I need to be there.

Like I said, I didn't know how to explain this via an email, about why I needed to reschedule.

Any thoughts? Ideas?

PS - no, this custody battle will not interfere with my ability to handle grad school! It's an ongoing BS battle back and forth between me and my dumb-orifice ex-husband, who wants to try and control every little aspect of my life, and my son's life.

I wouldn't worry a bit and don't think you need much more of an explanation than to say that a "family obligation" has come up. We can all relate to those and the ladies at Frontier seem very understanding and accomodating.

Good luck--you'll do great!!! Just as an FYI--my phone call arrived about 20 minutes early on the day of my interview. I almost didn't answer the phone because I wanted to keep the line clear for my big call! So just be prepared!

I would say nothing more than last min obligation came up that will be fine - the important bit is that you contacted them and rescheduled.

Good luck I did mine in the middle of the day between two night shifts I set my alarm fifteen mins prior to the interview all went well they were really nice just thing of why you want this and how you are going to incorporate school in you your life and what your goals are. You will do great

I'm sorry you're going through this. I'm sure you'll shine on your interview. Good luck to you and let us know how it went.

Don't tell them anything at all about a custody battle or other personal issues. Just say a last minute family obligation came up that could not be rescheduled and leave it at that. Stay very professional and superficial. If the Admin "hears" that you have a lot of personal stuff going on that could negatively impact your education they may think twice about admitting you. I will say that personal family issues seem to be one huge cause of course difficulty and attrition (either through taking leave of absences, quitting, or getting kicked out of school for course failure) at Frontier. The advantage of being enrolled in a distance program as a someone who works and has family responsibilities, the flexibility to study on your own time, is also the disadvantage, in that without a brick and mortar building and a tight week by week timeline, it is VERY EASY to get behind VERY FAST. Family issues derail students more quickly than anything else. If you do get admitted, and if you do have these issues, you may consider going part time until they are resolved.

Thank you Selke.

I am applying for the PT program, knowing that FT and working (with a family) would be WAYYYY too much for me to try to handle. If it was just me at home, I could probably do FT, but not with kids and all of their obligations/schooling, etc as well.

I already did one internet college course, and managed to keep a good at-home study schedule going. Even my youngest child knew that study time was "quiet time" for her, and was very important. Hopefully, I can continue with good home management to do my studying at home. Another option, I would suppose, is if it's too noisy here, pack my books and computer up, and head on to the library to study!

PS - ya'll wish me luck in court this morning, ok?:up:

Interview is done!! Fingers crossed :-)

It wasn't as bad as I had imagined, the admissions director asked me several questions (why do you want to be a midwife, how will you handle grad school rigors, what are your strengths and weaknesses as a student, why Frontier is the school for you, etc).

It lasted about 20 minutes, and I noticed that once I started talking, it got easier!

One thing I have to work on: filler words (um, ah, things like that)

Fingers crossed!!!!!

Congratulations on your interview, RNlabornurse4u! I have been lurking for a while and finally decided to join and post. I applied to Frontier for the RN-MSN, but my application was after the July 28 deadline. So I might have to be considered for next class. Did Dr. Voss conduct your interview? What did you talk about for 20 minutes? ( That seems like forever! lol ) I hope you get in! :D:D:D Shannon

Yeah!!!

I'm so glad it went well. Keep us posted on the decision.

In general, how far in advance do you have to apply for a class. I'm considering entering grad school in September. I will have had my one year experience by then.

They have a deadline listed for the different admission dates listed on their website.

I applied for class #64 which starts in December.
