Good Luck I'm sure you'll do fine. There are many schools that require Math tests or a Medical Dosage Class prior to beginning nursing school. In my school it is a pre-req. I've always had trouble in math until I got over the fear of numbers. Now I welcome the challenge. Again, Good Luck!
Well I took the test and it wasn't too bad. I'm confident that I got them all right- but ya never know!! There were only ten questions and they were pretty straightfoward problems.
I'm sooooo glad to have that behind me. But I can't believe I have to wait until the 18th to get my results!! They tell you during orientation. They pull everyone in individually and go over your test with you. Talk about nerve-racking!!
Now I can relax and enjoy the rest of the month until school starts.......

All my math test had on it was algebra also.. I know I did crappy on that part but they told me the most important was the reading and comprihension part..But I passed that with flying color's. so I'm all set to start.. Now let's get it done.. Okay can't spell tonight ladies.. I'm beat..
I am in a two year program, broken down into 8 quarters. You must pass a dosage calculation test each quarter except for the last one. You have 10 questions, with one minute for each question, unless it is an IV question and they give you 2 minutes for those. You have three tries to pass your test with 90%. If not, you are out. The test pertain to the quarter you are in such as pedi, maternity, med surg etc. We are allowed calculators.
Looks like every nursing school has the same requirements...
Mine was 1 test, 90% or better or you were placed on remediation and had to go the tutoring sessions. If you failed again, you were out.
I had a book called Clinical Dosages and Calculations by Kee&Hays and it is great! It explains conversions, calculations for peds and adults and has lots of practice exams. I think it was about $20.
Memorize the formulas for IV's. Look at what each question is asking: gtts per min, ml per hour, Units per gtt. etc....I still hate apothocary (sp?)
After we passed the test we rarely used the math again except in clinical, but not that much. I did have 4 med math questions on the NCLEX though.
Good luck with the med math exams

How many of you have to take a test for the nursing program? I'm on my way to take my test right now. It seems crazy to me that they are giving us a test on dosage calculations before we even start! And there's no measurement conversion chart- we have to memorize it...and no calculator!!! We get one hour and 10 questions. I feel OK about it cause I've been practicing (they were kind enough to give us a practice test) but I'm still nervous.
Just when you thought you were in-like-flynn they make you jump through another hoop!
Oh yeah, we get three tries at the test and must pass at 80% or better.
I'll post later and let you know how it was.
