Relocating to Winnipeg

Published

I am excited and looking to start my nursing career in Winnipeg and I will be relocating from Ontario :nurse:. Does anyone have good/ bad living experiences there? Maybe provide some insights on good areas to live in that are near downtown or close to amenities? I am hoping to find a single bedroom apartment/ bachlor or condominium to rent for at least a year. What are the well-known buildings that have this available plus laundry facility? Where can I go to find more information on renting? So far, I looked at the University of Winnipeg residence.

Thank you for all your inputs :yeah:

I would suggest the nurses recruitment and retention fund as assistance if you already have not done so.

Otherwise best of luck! I was considering moving out there but I wanted to get back my CRNE results first.

Difference province so you will have to meet the province requirements and get a license. If you move to a different province you have to apply in the same way someone already in Canada and moving province has to apply. License is only for the province that issued it

You, and everyone else who is wanting to come to Canada to work, would do best by deciding which province you want to live and work in BEFORE you do anything else, then save yourself a lot of time, money and effort by registering THERE. Nursing registration in Canada isn't inexpensive - it runs anywhere from $300 to $600 per year, and each college has a number of fees it charges applicants in addition to the registration fee.

As for pay scales, they vary dramatically from one province to another. This will take you to a comparison of wages and benefits coast-to-coast: Cross Country Comparison

Hi there,

Do you know whereabouts you're planning to work, or are you looking to find a place before you know for sure? I ask this because there are many nice areas around the most of the hospitals. For downtown/central - some of the areas/buildings can be a little sketchy, but there are really nice areas that are just a few minutes past downtown. I actually lived in an apartment block on the west end of 'downtown', right across from the U of W actually, and it was quite nice - Colony Square is the name of the building. I would suggest rentcanada.com or kijiji for websites, they should cover a pretty good idea of what's available. If you need anything else I can try to help!
