Reglan IV

we used to do that alot in the old days, late 60s early 70s, we did that with a lot of meds back then. Now we know better from a legal perspective.

We give reglan Iv all the time for nuasea. You can mix it in a 50 cc bag and infuses it slowly.

the bad effects are much dininshed by giving it slowly. I usualy draw up 10mg/1cc in a 3 cc syringe and draw 2 CC out of the line before pushing 1cc. wait 30 sec, draw another 1 cc of fluid and push1.5 cc, then draw up another 1.5cc from the line, wait 30 sec push 1.5 and then put the last of it in a port higher up the line then, slow the drip to TKO and have'nt ever gotten the freaky effects that I have seen other RN's get pushing reglan.

It works great for patients that don't get relife from zofran or phengran.

I give I.V. push reglan quite often. I push 1ml over 1-2 minutes and have never had a problem. Another poster mentioned using Reglan for migraines? I have never heard of that as a use for Reglan. But then, I have only been a nurse for a little over a year, so I know I have a lot to learn.

Do you mean Reglan works great for migraines? Ive never heard of Reglan used for that. Im not saying I doubt you, just saying Ive never heard of it and as a migraine sufferer, I just might have to look into it!

yep! seen it work greart for some people. Just don't let them push it fast.

In our ER they tend to use phenergan and/or compazine. But here in surgery/recovery the standard is Reglan/zofran IV, after that it depends?

A doc in my ED writes reglan 10 mg IV in 100 ml NS. I do it all the time & have not bad reactions from my pts.

Reglan is used a lot for migraines where I work. Except for those who are used to narcs for migraines, it can be quite effective.

EPS symptom Katasthesia. IV compazine does this too. Not to everyone though. Sorry if I spelled it wrong!! :rotfl:

IV Reglan...oh my gosh...that stuff made me feel like I was crawling out of my skin! About 15 min after I took it I was seized by an uncontrollable compulsion to run...I felt like I was going crazy!

Well on the side of EPS and reactions. They claim the rate of administration of compazine is the cause for the reactions. However, I used to put it in 100cc of nss over 20-30 minutes.

It didnt change it at all. Still had a quite a few.

It was common also because, we used compazine for migraines also. Excpet for the chronic migrainers that claimed allergies to evrything in the world except demerol.
