You need to contact the college of nurses for the province you want to work in and they will assess your education to see if it meets their criteria. The Canadian forum has a sticky at the top with the links to the college(licensing body) for each province.

There are a few threads regarding working in Canada. As mentioned you will need to apply to the province nursing board as a International Educated Nurse (IEN) and go through the assessment. At some stage you will also have to pass CRNE and that is only done in Canada three times a year

Americans have nursing boards. Canadian are governed by Colleges of Nurses.

Good luck, the process is fairly easy, takes a little time, so patience is a virtue!

You need to decide which Province you want to go to as licenses are not transferable between the Provinces. The exam may be for the whole of Canada but the requirements to obtain your license is not. It varies quite considerably.

I agree with the others, check out the stickie in the Canadian Forum, it's very useful.

It's very expensive to hold more than one current license, so most nurses don't bother. When you move, you just submit your paperwork, pay a chunk of cash (and I do mean a chunk) and get a license in the new province of residence. You can usually work under your out of province license until the "new" one is issued. But it is also a slow process. Took me nearly four months.
