I graduated as an LVN when I was 19 (graduated high school on Saturday and started nursing school 2 days later on Monday). I worked full time on a med/ surg floor for 2 years as an LVN before getting my RN.
Honestly, I think I was too young at age 19 to be nursing. I told my husband just the other day that I was a child taking care of these sick patients. And I made my fair share of mistakes due in a large part to immaturity.
I am 41 now and have learned so much and grown so much since I was 19. I am honestly not even the same person. If I had it to do over and circumstances had been different, I would have slowed down and perhaps devoted more time to my studies before taking on the huge responsibility that being a nurse entails.
Others may disagree, but I am just sharing my experience.

Age doesn't determine if you're too young or old for nursing, maturity is the key. I know people that are in their 40's that are immature and shouldn't be nurses. If you feel as if you could handle it, are ready and mature, then go for it.

I graduated LPN school with 2 people who turned 18 during the program (before we graduated).
I also graduated RN school with several people who were in the program at the age of 18/19 just turning 20/21 when we graduated.
Think positive and be confident.
I was 21 when I graduated nursing school, I did cna at 19 and lpn from 20-21.

I feel like as soon as i got my nursing license, I instantly matured.

I still have to make an appointment to register, but I completely understand what your feeling I'm 20 and I'm scared of failing. But like you nursing is something that interest me and I have a passion for. So good luck on everything :)

Do you care about people and want to help those who are sick and unable to care for themselves? Do you think you can care for a person and not talk to someone else about why they are being cared for, their name, etc? Do you want to be a nurse just because of the pay or do you want to be a nurse because you care about someone's well being. Ask yourself those questions and that should help you decide. Age doesn't matter, the patients do.

I have a classmate that is 18 years old. He is doing great.
I also had a classmate that was 18 years old. He didn't care, got dropped 2 weeks into the program.
Age does not matter, what matters is if you are mature enough for this profession and willing to devote your time into the program
