I have a decision to make about my classes this fall. I'm trying to finish my prereqs and I still need public speaking, child psych, a&p 1&2, and microbiology. I could get speaking and psych out of the way this fall so that I won't have to take any other classes at the same time as my sciences but then I won't be able to apply to the program until next fall or I could take speaking and a&p1 this fall, apply this fall, and take child psych and a&p2 in the spring. then i would have to take microbio either in a summer session or at the same time as my nsg classes (if I get in, that is). I need advice. Thanks so much.

Well, this is just me, but I took two classes together until I didn't have to.
If it were me (so this is only my opinion - your decision is up to you!), I would take a science class with one of the other classes, so for example, take A&P and public speaking in the Fall and then take Micro & psych in the spring.
I work full time, so I love my "free" time. I took summer classes two summers in a row (along with spring and fall), and last year and this year, I was able to take my summers off. I like my summers off (basically since I had my daughter in 2005), so that is why I say take two an two and get next summer off. I am done with all of my classes at this point, so I am hoping to get accepted to the program for the spring and complete my nursing classes. This fall I am taking a class that is not required so I will considered be a "student" at enrollment time.
What is your schedule like? Do you work full-time or have kids? I guess that makes a huge difference as to what you will select or whether or not you take a class in the summer. But me, I like to just get it done in one chunk!
Good luck with your decision!

A couple of questions: Is it too late to apply for a summer course?
Also does your school offer courses during winter break? or spring break?
My school offered 1 week intensive classes during spring break and winter break for non science courses and offered 5 week science classes.
Just a thought

i work full time and have a 4 month old daughter :heartbeat. I'll be going to school at night, and right now I'm hating the thought of being away frm my little girl at night as well as during the day. I was just asking because I've heard some horror stories about how hard a&p is but I'm anxious to apply and get on with life....
I really appreciate the advise.

would anyone recommend taking an A&P class and Micro at the same time? I have 6 more classes and I want to take 3 in the fall and 3 in the spring, so that I can apply for the RN program next fall. Is this possible??? Or should I take the Microbiology class seperately in the summer before applying?
1. A&P I
2. A&P II
3. College Algebra (might CLEP this)
4. Sociology
5. Microbiology
6. Chemistry
Thanks,
Melaine

Hey Melanie,
If you looked at my classes when you visited my site, you might have seen that I took A&P II and Micro and Psych all together. It is tough, I grant you that, but it is doable. I took both the Psych and A&P online, so that helped a lot. I would take A&P I, Micro and Sociology together, then A&P II, Algebra (if you decided to take it instead of testing out) and Chemistry. That is 4 sciences, but I just finished Chemistry this last semester, and of the 4, that one to me was the easiest. Of the 2 A&P's, the 2nd one was the hardest. And Micro was the absolute toughest out of the 4 of them!!!
Hi 3rdgenRN,
Like I just posted above, I took A&P II and Micro together along with Psych last fall, and while it is tough, it can be done. I would take Micro with A&P I as of the two A&P's, the second one is the toughest. I would save the other 3 for the next semester. If you have to only take 2 classes at a time, I would leave A&P II to take along with nursing school or during the summer. Micro is so intense that I see people at school all the time totally stressed taking it durinng the summer.
Hope this helps.
Hey Blessed...
I would love to take those classes but because I work full time and have a child, my schedule won't allow it. Also, at my school we need a&p2 before we enroll in the program. Thanks for the advice anyway!

Congratulations on your little girl!!! I also had my daughter while in school...she is now 21 months old!!! It is VERY hard to go back after that, but it does get easier and I just have to keep reminding myself WHY I am doing it. My husband is willing to help, so if you have the support there, go for it!! I also remind myself that it is good for my husband and daughter to have that time to bond as when I am home, he doesn't do anything!! As far as A&P, I LOVED it!!! It was one of my favorite classes. I think as long as you are given the time that you need to study, you will do fine. I think I did really well in that class because I actually enjoyed it!!! Understood things I NEVER thought I would!!
Best of luck to you with everything!!! I think you will do just fine. Limiting the classes will be good though since you have your baby, but I think if you do 2 a semester, you should be ok...just make it a Science/other combo in my opinion! GOOD LUCK!
