reapplying to nursing program........keep getting denied

Published

i went into college as a nursing major and due to circumstances of my personal life, i didn't focus enough and failed out ( i got a C in pharmacology instead of a C+). I switched my major to health science and graduated with a bachelors and with a 3.3 GPA. I applied to 7 accelerated nursing programs out there and all got denied bc since i "failed" the lecture they gave me and F on my pharm lab because it was a pass or fail class. im just looking for a second chance and I know there has to be other people that this has happened to and have gotten into another nursing program. Im from long island so if anyone knows of programs that admit people who have been in a previous program it would help a lot... im desperate here. anything on the east coast would be ideal. thanks ?

Can you retake the course and replace the grade?

I did not attend an absn program, but my understanding is that they do not take C grades and dont accept retakes. I heard the rationale is that absn programs are fast paced and competitive(hundreds of other applicants with no 'C' on their records), so there is no room for errors/retakes.

Is applying for a traditional program out of the question ?

to add on to this, an ADN program as well?

I think ADN programs accept retakes for "C" grades. But i think some have added restrictions- either you cant enroll within two years of failing another program, or they dont admit students who failed elsewhere at all. Some program out there might give you a second chance. We all make mistakes.

Research/google/call around to your local schools and find out their policies

I would definitely pursue traditional programs, both ADN and BSN. I already have a bachelors degree but I'll be getting my ADN. I know the ABSN programs are so competitive that you can have damned near a 4.0 and still not get accepted sometimes.
