I was just wondering if there were any 2nd time test-takers out there that have any extra advice on going to take the boards again. I am starting to get really nervous because not only is this the 2nd time, but it's the 2nd time my job is holding my RN position for me and if I fail again, I'm worried they will no longer hold it and just tell me to re-apply when I finally become and RN. I know the key to passing the boards is to stay calm and relaxed. I am trying, but for some reason I have butterflies in my stomache worse than last time. I have been studying all along, took Kaplan, and know I have done my best, but I still have that dreaded fear of not passing. I try my best to think positively, I am just soooooo nervous!! If anyone has any advice on how they dealt with these fears prior to the test it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

Exercise, go out with friends, read books (other than NCLEX books!), study questions, and you should be fine! Good luck!

I am going to be taking my exam on Oct. 16th for 2nd time also jm1739. I know how you are feeling. I also took Kaplan- think it really helps. I am working as PCT now, but am also awaiting the position as RN. The best advice i can give myself and you is to just relax when taking the exam ( I know that seems so hard), apply the strategies you learned from Kaplan, and take your time. Make sure you get to the testing center in plenty of time, and if you start to feel anxious during the exam, take a break and walk out of the room to relax for a few moments. I wish you the very best and remember don't study the day before the exam. Do something fun! Good luck :)

Thanks for the advice. I know this all seems so obvious on what to do to relax, but let me tell you I am really having trouble focusing this time around! I think it's the extra pressure of knowing this is my second time around and everyone at work is awaiting the results as well.
Chrislynn, good luck on your exam too! I know we can both do it! We both seem prepared. Keep me updated on how you do. I am taking mine on October 8th, so I'll let you know how it turns out. Just think we will soon be RN's!! :)

Yes you both will be RN's soon!!!
I took my boards for the 2nd time on Sept. 29th, and I passed. Funny thing is I feel I put more pressure on myself and tried harder the first time. That was the problem, I was nervous and stressed myself out. I did not really stop practicing questions after I took my 1st test. I didn't stress over it, just did a few each day or so. I took an NCLEX review 2 weeks b4 my exam and didn't study 3 days b4 the exam. I was nervous and questioned my actions (not studying), but had to live with it and knew it was because I would just get nervous. I had to think, geezz I let this test beat me and make me feel awful. I had my job waiting as well...and ya know I thought about that like crazy all the way up to test day.
When I walked into the persons office I was mad, ready to just take it again and get it over with. I took my time on the ?, didn't look at the number I was on or the clock, took breaks when I felt nervous and breathing deeply didn't work. I didn't think about my 1st exam or my job waiting for me!!
Computer shut off, and I am not joking I was begging for more questions. My nose was practically on the computer screen, promising to do better if they just give me more! LOL
Thing is, I could say don't be nervous...but you will. Turn that nervousness into anger, not hostle anger, but just enough to keep you focus on that exam. O...eat something salty and wear red!!!!
I wish you luck, and remember you guys have an advantage....you've seen the exam, so that won't be a surprise.
You've also had more time than most to review and study questions. You guys can do this!!! Let us know how it all goes, I'll be sending prayers and hugs!!!!
Thanks NicusNsg. I'll be sure to eat something salty and find something red to wear. Congrats on passing :balloons:

Like you, I am also a 2nd timer, I recently took 2nd boards on Sat. and am anxiously awaiting results! It was harder this time, a lot of disaster questions and abuse questions. I hope I prepared myself well. I studied a lot more than the first time and took my time answering each question, I read each question slowly and twice. I had 91 questions the first time and 265 this time. I am brain fried right now and wish you lot's of luck! I will find out tomorrow or Wed. if I pass. wish me luck, I am an LVN and need this sooooo much!
Good luck Kimzeykat. i will be praying for you. Taking my NCLEX 2nd time next week also.
Wishing you all lots of luck!!!!
Cyberhugs and lots of prayers, Jen
Thanks NicuNsg! I really appreciate all your advice and support. I'll be sure to fill you in on how it goes tomorrow. I too, will be wearing something red and eat something salty;)
