I originally posted this on my school's forum, but didn't get a reply. So...I figured I would try here :)
Hello everyone...I will be starting my program in a couple of weeks (OMG its finally here) and I have no idea what kinds of supplies needed. Outside of the normal paper, pens, highlighters etc. I just wanted know what everyone who is already in school or soon to start has purchased. I dont have orientation until 8/30 and I'm just anxious to get started! Thanks in advance for your input.

Hmmm.....
Uniforms, shoes, stethescope, drug guides, NCLEx study books, a good planner, scrubs for lab (required for us), rolling backpack, lunch stuff (box and Tupperware stuff), water bottle, electronic devices (iPad for me)...I know I'm leaving out some of the million things I feel like I've bought...
But hopefully that helps. There weren't really any "needed" things required of us other than the obvious uniforms and textbooks and stethoscope, so we're just sort of feeling our way through to see what would be useful

Thanks so much Stephalump...there are quite a few things on this list that never crossed my mind! Tupperware n lunch stuff was one of them...don't want to become dependant on the vending machine

I would hold off on the medical supplies (uniforms, stethascope, shoes, drug guide) most schools require you to get a specific kind. I ended up needing to get a different stethascope because the one I bought was not quite what the school wanted us to have. The things you will definatly need on the first day are...
*Pencils (ones that you like useing)
*Pencils (cheap ones that your friends can "barrow" only to not return)
*Pens (ones that you like useing)
*Pens (cheap ones that you friends can "barrow" only to not return)
*A good planner
*high lighters
*paper clips
*healthy snacks with sugar and protien (string cheese, nuts, whole wheat crackers, fuit that is noisy or to messy like grapes and a peeled orange)
*lunch bag and water bottle
*reuseable grocery bags in different colors (they are cheap and you can color code them by class with all the books and supplies needed for each class so that you dont have to carry everything with you and you can just leave them in your car and switch them when changing classes)
*"emergency kit" (a bag with mints/gum, extra hair elastics, extra #2 pencil, personal products, hand sanitizer, tissues, pain reliever, cough drops, $1s and quarters ect...)
*travel mug that can hold lots and lots of COFFEE!
Thats all I can think of for now!
Thx Abigail!
Abigail, I LOVE the emergency kit idea! I'll be making one this weekend, for sure!

Hahahaha I loved the "borrowed" pens/pencils idea. You'd think this far in life people would learn to become prepared to class, nope! I only use those sharpie pens, they are the best for long lecture classes, but a damper on the wallet. After many "borrowed" brand new sharpie pens later, I give away cheap pens now!
I wish I could keep a emergency kit, but I would dip into it all the time..making it a not so emergency kit....lol

I agree! I will be getting some throw away pens and pencils. Just a few though...not going to be everyone's school supplier lol.

Unless you have gotten information from your school about their requirements, I would wait to buy anything other than your basic school supplies. They may have a certain type they want you to buy or some schools provide a lab kit with some of your nursing supplies in it.
