Questions re: Excelsior

I have been looking into this program and have had my transcripts sent so they are in the process of evaluating those transcripts.

1. I have been reading that having Excelsior on your resume is not looked upon favorably. What are your experiences if you hold your degree (ADN/ASN) from Excelsior?

2. I have been trying to find out if the Iowa Board on Nursing accepts Excelsior education. Anyone know for sure? Yes, I shall be calling them this wee, just wondering in the meantime.

A little back ground on me. I started out in a ADN program and got to the last class which I failed the clinical twice. Well, the first time it was due to a clinical instructor I had for two previous clinicals at a hospital that would not allow us to do the skills we needed (IV's the main one). We had also been having some personality issues and the last class, she basically ignored me and then when she wasn't, she micromanaged my every move. Intimidating to say the least. So, I changed schools and decided to go for my LPN which I successfully completed and passed the NCLEX. I have been working as an LPN for about 6 months now.

It is because of this education that I am looking into Excelsior to finally earn my RN as this has been my goal from the beginning. I just don't want to be driving and sitting in a classroom everyday.

I guess it depends on the state or institution. Here in Texas no one cares that much. My LVN instructor graduated from EC & worked in many different places.

Be very careful. Maryland stopped recognizing Excellsior LPN to RN in 2008 or close to that year. You would not want to invest time and money to not be able to work in your state or have to repeat classes a third time.

Maryland now recognizes EC grads in certain circumstances. Other states only accept LPN to RN (wont accept medic or RT to ASN). Only CA is an absolute no.

Was never questioned about graduating from Excelsior. All they cared about was that I have my RN license, not how I got it.

Thanks, that was how I was reading it too. I will probably continue where I am working now so that would add to my experience.
