Question

Hi,

My family is moving to Florida in a few months and i wanted to get my CNA certificate and work in the hospital when we get there. I have looked into CNA courses and it seems that the class only prepares you for a nursing home or long term care setting and not for the hospital. Would i be better taking the patient care technician class or should i take both classes? What is the difference between a patient care tech and a CNA?

Also i was wondering what is the BLS certificate i will need?

More than likely, you will be required to get the BLS for HealthCare Providers which is through the American Heart Association (AHA).

I took my CNA course thru the local tech college. It may seem like you are being trained to only work in LTC, but thats probably not the case. Ask the student advisor if students graduating the course go on to work in hospitals. They probably do. Good luck

BLS-Basic Life Support is CPR. It has to be recertified every two years.

A school that is going to teach you how to be a tech with cover things for both Hospital and Nursing home settings. They are very much related. When I did my CNA course we did clinicals in both settings and I have also worked in both settings. Taking the PCT course will cover all you need. I also live in Florida.:bugeyes:
