question regarding license

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has an answer to my question. I am relocating to California soon, only I have a NY state RN license. What are the chances of me getting interviewed with my out of state license before I get my Ca license? :nurse:

you can probably get interviewed w/out a ca license. new grads get interviewed and offered jobs all the time w/out even having taken the nclex. have you submitted your paperwork yet for ca licensure?

Start the paperwork, it takes awhile. I just started and have a feeling will take a good 2 months if i am lucky. I find the hospitals prefer you to have license in hand. Which CAlifornia hospitals are you thinking about.

No i am relocating there. Do have a friend i will be staying with. Seems like Kaiser is hiring. I am an RN with about one year experience trying to get cross trained into a new area. Are you a new grad? Lots of great new grad jobs. Let me know if you hear anything interesting on hospitals that are hiring. Thanks.

I guess I am considered a new grad...but no...I left school about 5 trs ago...I just did my NCLEX in 2004 and passed. I guess they will consider me a new grad. I dont know where I fall. I have been an LPN for 5 yrs..no RN experience. I will keep you informed as soon as I hear anything

You can actually do a "walk-thru" at the Board of Nursing in Sacremento, and get issued a temporary license right on the spot. It takes a few hours, but you leave with the document in your hand.

That will be the easiest for you to do.................

It might be a stupid question, but what's a "walk thr", and what should I bring wth me?

My research showed the walk thru process more complicated than i orginally thought.

The walk through still needs verfication from BON from state you are currently licensed, verification of graduation from nursing school, finger print cards, and passport photo. So start the process as soon as possible. My state, my school are slow in sending their side.

I actually did the walk-thru in Janaury and was out of the office in just a few hours. It can easily be done. If one of the states where you are licensed is on Nursys then it is even easier, otherwise you need documentation form your Board of Nursing.

You can go to the Department of Justice for "live scan" fingerprinting, you can register for Nursys if your state is one that participtates or you can do it in Sacremento by just going to a local Kinko's. Have your two pictures with you, and then that is it. I don't know how it can be any easier than that...

All of this can be done within a few hours in Sacremento, they will actually give you a map to get everything done. By 1 pm, you can be on your way home and able to begin work the next day.

Sorry but not for the walk-thru. You only need vierification of your other license, if you already have one, and that can be done on Nursys.com.

You can also do the "live scan" for fingerprinting and forget about the cards.
