Question...Please help!

Published

I know another person has previously posted a topic along the lines of transferring credits from another institution or not transferring them. I had a similar question, under different circumstances. I had attended a CC approximately 5 years ago. The classes I had taken at this institution were not related in any way towards nursing. (I was fresh out of hs and decided to major in business). Anyways, due to lack of care for school and focusing more on a social life, I dropped three of the four classes I was enrolled in, which appear as a W on the transcript due to dropping too late. Since I have started over at a different CC and have taken only classes that apply to the nursing program (and have done well in all of the classes), is it necessary to list the prior CC as a previous institution. I know most classes don't count after 5 years anyways.... and opinions on this topic?

Most schools as that you list all schools that you previously attended not only the schools with relevant coursework. So yes you will still need to include the information from 5 years ago. Not all 5 year old credits are 'invalid' I have English and humanities credits much older than 5 years that are routinely accepted and applied.

You are older and wiser now, and will demonstrate that by working hard on your classes for the nursing program. I am sure the admissions counselors have seen this before and will judge you on your personal presentation. You can't withhold your previous transcript but you can let them know that you are five years older and more mature now. If you were 18 then and 23 now, that's a big difference in terms of maturity and responsibility. Convince them of that.

If it's a community college you were at and a different community college you are now attending and it is in the same state, won't they be able to see all of your community college records for that state just by pulling you up on the system? That's how my state community college system works. (virginia). Also there is no expiration on ENG, as I was happy to find out just a few days ago. I took CC classes for LIberal Arts back in the nineties and got A's in all my ENG courses (along with some bad grades or W grades). Now that I am in the RN program, starting in August, at a different community college, I was worried about having to re take ENG 111, but the advisor said they have no time limit on that.

Hello!! Its better to list all transcripts to then to get caught by the school you are applying too! Unfortunately schools are able to look up your past schools through the national college/student clearinghouse. You will always have a chance to explain that you were once careless but have matured and are ready for new academic challenges. This will be displayed through you new grades. The best part is that schools like to see people that have matured and demonstrate they are now ready for their academic career.

So I would highly recommend you list all college work. Would you rather be seen as a student who has matured and is ready or as a student who will "lie" and hide things? I have a situation like yours and I applied with all my transcripts listed. I landed an interview which is soon :D so its best to be honest!! Good luck to you and I hope you are able to get in!! Don't let this discourage you!!!!

yes...you have to transfer everything. Anything you had from first credits you took in college through present day.

I had the same situation...but many more years in between! They do look at the years in between...and if you have to retake classes then you just retake them.
