I am a military nurse who will be separating from the Air Force soon. In the Air Force, nurses do not get paid any more money if they are certified. I would like to know if I obtain my certification in Emergency Nursing, will I expect to receive more pay? If so, can anyone tell me how much more per hour I might expect to make if I am certified? I would appreciate any input on this. Thanks......

It depends on your employer, but don't expect to get too much more for certifications. I have seen as much as $2.00/hr and as little as $0. It seems that most places are using certifications in conjunction with charge activities, preceptor duties, etc. in determining yearly merit increases and not an hourly payment for the certification. Not much incentive. If you do it, do it for yourself and not monetary return.

No increase at my hospital for cert. My former hospital gave an incredible $.10 an hour ($4/week) raise for BSN over ADN.

My facility pays $1.00/hr for TNCC or ENPC. For NRP you get $.50/hr. BSN you get $.50/hr. CEN you get $1.00/hr. They max certification pay at $3.00/hr.
But, keep in mind, my wage is about $8/hr less than the national average....so even with certifications, it still doesn't add up. Could be why we make the extra for certifications.....don't know.

We get a bonus of $300 a year for CEN, plus we get invited to a special dinner. Aftet taking and passing the CEN test they will reimburse us the cost of it as well. No other pay for any other ceritification.

We get a whole extra $3.00 an hour for all period, no multiples, a special dinner once a year, and the oppourtunity to get stuck as charge. Me, well I got stuck as house sup. for ER and SICU, which is ok, love them both-lol, but the thing which is stupid is I work in a big private university based/academic trauma center they can afford it lol but are tight, now since you come from air force if youve had any flight time you might consider flight, or maybe ICU.

I work in ER with Vetans Affairs Medical Center. Here you are compensated for your certifications. You are also paid more if you hold a bachelor's degree verses an associate degree. Let me know if I can give you anymore information.

If you work in a Magnet facility, the answer is yes. Anywhere else- no.
