Hey all I was wondering and this may be a stupid question but, are CEU's required? I want to do some obviously for my own good and my own educational development but are they required for licensure retention? I can't remember what we were taught about them in school LOL!
I want to do some but right now we have money crunch issues so it will be awhile, I'm just wondering if there is a requirement for licensure issues.

CEU are a requirement to renew your license. I think in my state it's something like 30. If you are a new grad, I am pretty sure they let you slide the 1st renewal without any CEUs, but after that you need them to renew your license.

In CA new grads do not need CEs for the first renewal but thereafter you need 30 per renewal. No CEs, no license.

CEUs most definitely a requirement to renew your licence. In NV. you also need 30 to renew. Many facilities will offer CEs so that you don't have to pay for them.

There is plenty of information here on allnurses, but please check your state's board of nursing site to have the 'official' word.
