Question about Authorization to Test

I graduated from an LVN program nearly two weeks ago, and have been anxiously awaiting my authorization to test letter. It has still not arrived. Is this normal? How long does it take on average? Thanks!

Depends on the volume in your state and the number of personnel who are able to generate the data. Plus, the BON has to wait till your school sends the info to them before processing can even begin. You might try contacting your school to see if it has gone to the Board yet. Otherwise, I would wait a week or so.

Yes, it's normal. Look at the big picture: this time of year, your state BON is processing many thousands of applications from spring graduates. Use the time to keep studying for NCLEX.

Within a week of submitting my paperwork to my school and mailing my license application I had my ATT. I did everything online so that may be why it happened so quickly. Good Luck, I am taking the LPN boards June 13.

yeah, depends on how busy the state office is; I'm in FL. I asked my classmates during my Kaplan review class who had already sent off their application, which was over a month past the time we had graduated (thru Xmas break), and I was getting replies of 2-4 weeks. Most said they had gotten their ATT in 2 weeks. Sure enough, mine got to me in 2 weeks. I called Pearson VUE to schedule my NCLEX and the first available test date was just barely over one full month away -- I did not foresee that, and had a bit too much hang-time.

I have also heard from our nursing school admin that it depends on the school promptly sending the list out. My school assured us that they were sending out our list the day after our pinning ceremony (one week before the official end of classes) -- 'yay' for prompt. Some schools take a week or longer to process after graduation before they send it to the state, at which time your name is available for them to process in and respond to your application.

Just to put your mind at ease, call the school and ask when they sent in your paperwork. During my graduation school sent them with in days of our grades posting, the class behind me the school didnt send them in for 3 weeks after graduation, graduation was about a week after finals!!!

That class was freaking out..rightly so.

Best of luck!! Once you get a date start your practice Nclex questions daily...

Let's see... I graduated August 2006 and applied days before graduation online. I didn't get authorization until mid September and waited til October to test. So really I think I waited 3 weeks for the notice.
